buyer using message to offer on 'buy it now items' with offer option

Hello Ebay universe! I have noticed over the last year or so that I receive offers via Ebay messaging even though I have the Make Offer option and the user does not act when I would accept replying OK  (then I adjust the listing to match the request so they can buy it now) or respond via Reply with Offer. Then I stopped replying with Reply with offer and directed the Buyers to use the offer option in the item listing - again no purchase. I have had this experience maybe 8 or 9 times over the past year or so and wonder if these buyers are fishing for drop ship or selling on another site and gathering offers from different Ebay sellers. Anyone have this experience with offers via Ebay messages when you have Offer option on the Buy it Now listing? Thank you!

I've avoided listing as Make Offer simply because of associated headaches I could see with that...

Buyers can message sellers about an item AND include an offer anytime even if the BIN item does not presently accept Make Offer options, that being said I've received one such offer in the past year or two but none of my items use the Make Offer option.  Also we sell in different categories...

ebay claims it will increase sales, but I'm not so sure it does even that.

I can somewhat see the logic but then I am thinking, BIN is already my best price so now what?

Raise my BIN price and then include a Make Offer?

Silly ...

Ebay should spend more time concentrating on fixing their present code issues, less time rolling out new updates.  Guaranteed their sales would increase (which means our sales) if only they'd troubleshoot their present system to work as flawlessly as it possibly can, the amount of straight up and in many cases obvious ERRORS and just plain dumb mistakes in the code that underlies all of how ebay works is past astounding.

I wish I could give you some sort of a picture of how bad these errors really are, but lets just say its like a bunch of CS reps are doing the coding, it's seriously that bad.

And for this we pay exorbitant fees, meanwhile the CEO whose Christmas bonus alone is likely more than most of us will earn in our lifetimes... Just doesn't make sense, this lack of taking responsibility.

I'd say they don't want to actually buy it,

they want to talk through messages, so you can accept some offer, where they'll be able to trick you into sending the item to them, without them actually paying for it.

If they actually used the Make Offer, they'd be obligated to pay through eBay.

Thank you! That makes sense - if I don't respond and they really want to offer, they would do it through the listing. Last month I had one buyer submit an offer, which I accepted, then he messaged me that, since I agreed, to go into the item and update the price - but he included a picture of another similar listing, with a View your Listing button, I had that was 3 times more expensive!

Same here but it's definitely not every day, more like once or twice a year, depends on your sales volume I'd suppose as well as what you're selling.
