@020196 In addition to everyone else's detailed facts on becoming TRS and TRS Plus for the 10% FVF discount and Badge Displayed (prominently) on selected listings I would add:
1 . Sell like gang busters!!!!!
2. Focus on YOUR business and what works best for you
3. Provide absolutely top notched service before, during and after a sale
4. Everything else will fall in to place

One person's hoop jumping is another person's just a day at the office.
I used to be a TRS, and for me, it was just a bat-squeak too Gestapo. You know that dream everyone speaks of having....missing that important college exam? It got to be a little like that for me. And living in the real world, of snow storms, power outages, and just plain ol' snafu's [i.e. human error] Bye-bye TRS!
"And living in the real world, of snow storms, power outages, and just plain ol' snafu's [i.e. human error]" Ebay covers those kind of events all the time. Well at least all but the last one. But then that should be covered by the percentage of issues you can have in any one category without fear of losing TRS. And there is the Grace period for TRS as well. It isn't quite as unforgiving as being portrayed here.
Sorry, m'dear...But judging by the previous threads, me thinks thou art outnumbered.
Maybe on the thread but that doesn't make my observations any less valid or important than anyone else's comments. Sorry, m'dear.

From Labs post..
In most Collectibles & Art categories, you need to offer 14-day free returns
You don’t have free returns so you don’t qualify for the discount.
I'm going in circles here because that is what I thought, but it looked like the poster I quoted stated the buyer pays the return shipping, so that wouldn't be free returns.
I am still confused. This is the post I quoted:
@judydu2 wrote:Depending on the category, you can still get the discount with 30 day return, buyer pays for return shipping. You don't get the badge, but you still get the discount. I guess it depends on how much importance is placed on the badge by the seller...
Could someone please explain this to me. I have missed this information and never noticed getting the discount on any of my items.
Sorry Fern As above post you need to go to the link
Read it & you will see for any 14 Day in Art & collectible you need to offer Free returns .
The other 30 day buyer pays is specific categories as posted.
The link I posted will explain it all
And as posted Freight or sell items in the following categories
The link will give you the categories you can sell in and offer 30 day return and it doesn't have to be free returns , buyer pays works !!!
Edit
And this post is messing up posting funny or is it me ?

Interesting, I never understood the explanation when it came out. So, book sellers that do not offer free returns still get the discount. I'll have to try that out.
Thanks everyone for the explanations.

I still remember the last time I called ebay.....NO thanks.
Here's a few things I would rather do before ever calling ebay again...
~ I would rather have a root canal with no painkillers
~ I would rather take on a steam roller one on one
~ I would rather jump into the grand canyon head first

That's probably because the buyer can read the book in those 30 days, so they make them pay for shipping back - so you can refund them plus original shipping.
Maybe they think it takes the sting out of being a free lending library.

You are entitled to feel that way. Your choice to make. Nothing wrong with that. But that doesn't mean it is wrong or someone else shouldn't call if they have the need. It just means for you it isn't what you want to do. We each have the right to make the choice that is right for us.

@magicjohnsonsvariety wrote:Don't even bother with it...it means absolutely nothing to ebay or to buyers.
With or without it, Ebay will still treat you like crapp on the lawn.
I personally don't consider the requirements for TRS to be jumping through hoops. I have maintained TRS since almost the day it started. And that is because I didn't have to change any of the business practices that I've always done, so for me it is just part of doing business.
As for the discount and having my listings labeled as TRS+, that I see a bit differently. All my listings use to qualify for it, but with the reduction in the discount rate to half of what it use to be, I found it wasn't worth the additional work it takes to ship 0-1 days. So I voluntarily gave this up and changed all my listings to 2 day handling. I have never regretted that decision. The stress that was lifted off my shoulders was more than worth the discount $$s I lost.
Now this I can relate to because I did the same thing. I tried to ship 1 day and just couldn't do it and went back to 2 days.
Ebay is very unforgiving and uncaring...they don't understand how the real world works. Just a couple power outages and your late shipment rate soars like an eagle. One time, even the Post Office was closed because they had no power. Does ebay care???...No
I think that is a bit unfair. Ebay has to manage millions and millions and millions of members, somewhere north of 160 million worldwide. If you expect Ebay to make an exception for you not making the shipping requirements for the TRS program because you weren't feeling well one day or had a personal emergency, you will always be disappointed. These types of situations are considered in the percentage thresholds for any given stat requirement. Otherwise they would be expecting 100% at all times in all stat categories and that simply isn't the case.
Sometimes sellers forget that it isn't just about us. Our individual issues. While hugely important to us, not so much for Ebay overall. But that doesn't mean Ebay doesn't care. It means they just can't take that personal one on one type service for all 160+ million members.
Now on the other hand. If you have had power outages that were so significantly long that they prevented you from shipping within the 0-1 day handling, you can call Ebay for help. You will have to give them proof of the problem, but most times they will work with you as long as there is real proof of the issue.
Same with sudden illness and/or hospitalization. While it may seem a bit of an invasion of privacy, if you give Ebay proof that you were hospitalize or some other real life event caused you to be unavailable to perform your seller duties, they may just work with you. But you need to call Ebay and find out what they want to prove what you say and then provide it. It won't work all the time, but you can call to see if they will work with you. Over the years I have known many cases where they have worked with the seller. And it isn't because they don't care, it is because they do.
I don't expect ebay to make exceptions just for me. What I do expect is ebay's Customer service rep to be honest and not tell me one thing and then turn around and do the exact opposite.
There are many, many corporations out there who have millions and millions of customers and can still provide good customer service.
Your excuse that ebay can't give good customer service just because it has to "manage" millions and millions is just that, an excuse and a poor one at that.

WHOA!! Quote me if you want, but get it right. I NEVER said what I have highlighted above. That may be your take away, but it isn't what I said, implied or inferred.
It appears that no matter what I say it will not satisfy your needs. So I will bow out of the conversation as I don't think it will prove to be beneficial for anyone.

May I ask then what was the point of mentioning that ebay has to manage millions of members.
When we sellers call, it absolutely should be about us and our individual issues. You clearly state and I quote "they just can't take that personal one on one type service for all 160+ million members"...
Why not?
When I call, the rep is one on one with me, she is not handling 160 million accounts all at once, just 1...

I don't think any thing I said at this point would be what you wanted to hear. So I don't think further discussion would help.

Ah, we always seem to see our own faults in others, before we see them in ourselves. If you recall, you felt I thought your opinion was irrelevant, with no Merritt (Not a direct quote) when all I said was you were out numbered. Sorry, but this was so obvious, I just couldn't resist.
