automatic accepting returns

i have no problem with this policy because ive always accepted them anyhow but now on 2 seperate occasions the item was damaged during shipping and they bith checked item not working defective then eBay accepted and gave them a return label to ship back and I refunded.  The issue here is if they ship back the item then that null amd voids any insurance claim you can make at least with fed ex thats the case. So now im out about 600 dollars plus the cost of shipping the broken item back on top of the cost to ship it to them plus packaging fees etc.  Once its accepted if the vuyer chooses to ignore your messages then what are you supposed to do.  No pictures, no descriptions except ot was broke when I got it from both.  Normally I woukd accept and instruct them to dispose of the item and them I would refund after they sent pictures hopefully or a more detailed description of the condition of the item.  I appreciate ebays help in taking care of my office duties but this is going to be a huge extra cost if it keeps happening.  Guess I can change what I sell to something less fragile etc but I shouldn't have to do that right.  Im sure some of you are going to tell me that there is already a 30 day policy yadda yadda, I know that but what if you didnt want the item shipped back or a label purchased??  Thanks in advance for any  feedback

If you don't want the item shipped back, you can refund without requiring a return.

With free returns, you still are given the option to approve, deny, or issue a refund, whenever someone makes a claim.

I'm not sure I understand how you collect on a claim of damage if you don't have the item, but given that you have these choices, you can presumably communicate with the buyer to get done what you need to get done.

While it may matter to you, it doesn't to Ebay.  There are only three types of claims.  INR, BR [Buyer's Remorse] and INADs.  Both the reasons you gave above would be an INAD.

This is a very frustrating situation many of us have found ourselves in from time to time.  @mcdougle4248  gave you some great advice.  Go to your Return Preferences and make sure you have the box checked to require RMA numbers.  This will prevent Ebay from auto issuing a return label as they need to contact you first so you can assign the RMA number.  That gives you the opportunity to look the claim over and see if you want to reach out to the buyer and try to get it worked out.

Ebay can't and doesn't require buyers to work with seller on an insurance claim.  They really can't do that.  But luckily you are  TRS with a 30 day return policy, so you qualify for the additional seller protections described in the link below.  This enables you to deduct up to 50% of the refundable amount to the buyer and protect your FB too.  Careful how you describe why you re reducing the refund so that it works with the Ebay rules on the subject.

I just have to say, all these threads on this subject here and on the Payments boards and the MP board are interesting to say the least.  It is like deja vu!

This process shouldn't be new to any seller except maybe some of the sellers that have been in MP for a couple years.  Ebay started Simplified Returns back in the fall of 2018.  It just didn't apply to MP members until recently.

So all of the upset and concern over this process was addressed back in 2018.  I just think it is interesting that we are doing it all over again two years later.
