Past week noticed feedback count going up but every time I'd look wasn't seeing any new feedback to go with the count, there would be 1 new from buyer but count went up by 3... until this morn when I noticed the small "automated feedback" on the right of feedback page says "8" and so I checked the box "show automated feedback" and seen where these left.
Not a bad thing, buyers actually leaving feedback is nicer, but so many don't leave it at all it's nice to see "something" for all the thousands orders filled and feedback left for buyers.

"All eBay transactions are now entitled to
& will receive positive feedback absent buyer indicating otherwise."
Not exactly. There are certain requirements as well. Plus automatic FB is for sellers to receive, not buyers.

"The negs & neutrals posted for a seller are what matters"
Not all negative or neutral feedback is an accurate description of the seller.

I think it may have a difference in their returns. I've always avoided sellers with less than 98.6% or more. Unless the item was very hard for to to find I usually didn't bother to dive deeper into their reviews.
Now it looks like sellers will have inflated feedback scores, at least in the way I use them.
I think alot of buyers unaware of this new auto feedback will be surprised to have a bad experience with a seller that has a high feedback score. Returns are bound to be the result I believe.
Since I usually don't feel like playing detective or going beyond the feedback score for more common items I'll probably buy less of them. I don't like using the MBG, I never feel I've been made whole considering my time, dissapointment, gas burned etc. Easier to just not buy common stuff in the first place.................

Yup, correct, not all will get a (+)
I shipped quickly. (days ahead of required by my handling)
Item made it to buyer's city 8 states away in 3 days.
USPS then put it on a sightseeing tour to Alaska.
It will not be eligible for "automatic" feedback.

Why is 98.6% your line in the sand, why not 98.5 or 98.7?

👎 Ebays version of a participation award. I'm not feeling it.

eBay devaluing the importance of feedback, it's buyers who make the decision to enter or not enter into a transaction with a particular seller, the number of positive feedback appearing for a seller in the past from actual buyers was likely greatly influential in the decision.

I agree, & would not support eBay giving auto negative or neutral transaction feedback to a seller .
Upon information & belief there are two legal parties to a transaction, I review & give weight to actual feedback

If buyer elects not to leave feedback, would you contact ebay & complain if eBay gifts you an auto positive ?

my mind is old. your train of thought escapes me.
All I stated is agreement with maryl
not all will get an "auto (+) and provided my situation as an example
(I have gotten some (+) since the "auto" started. the one I posed will not meet the eligibility)

Based upon prior experiences, I do not have supreme confidence, in eBay always competently putting into practice what it says it will do or take place

98.6% for common items I can buy most anywhere. Something I read on these forums and it seems to be working for me. I rarely have had problems with the 98.6% criteria. I like to separate "the wheat from the chaff" as quickly as possible with those items.
I'll go alot lower and read the detailed feedback to decide if the item is something I've been looking for and not finding. In my genre(s) of collecting some items will take years to find online and then I am more prone to taking a risk with a low feedback score so it's not set-in-stone so-to-speak..................

So you're preemptively upset about the possibility that eBay could incompetently give @buyselljack2016 an auto-pos for a late delivery, even though he did ship in his handling time and the late delivery is due to the postal carrier, also the buyer can still leave whatever feedback they want up to 60 days after delivery, and it would replace the auto? Am I missing something?

But I'm asking why such a precise number, down to the tenth of a percent? Is it because 98.6 is the healthy human body temperature?
09-13-2025 02:55 PM
No that's coincidence. I never noticed the human equilavent, nice catch by the way. The precise number I got by reading these forums where I read quite a few suggesting 98.6% in the past.
I never thought much about it. It's hasn't been too hard finding a seller with a much higher rating than 98.6%, for common items anyway.
It looks like alot of sellers will have a high percentage in the future.
On more common items I'll just make more stops when I go to town every week or so to get them instead of bothering to read a bunch of reviews instead of just looking at the basic feedback score.
An unintended consequence of the inflated feedback scores, at least when it comes to alot of my purchases........................
