This is ridiculous and hilarious at the same time. Now an AI that has no connection to be or the buyer is going to generate feedback and stick it on my file. AI GARBAGE. I hope ebay offers an "opt out" option. I don't need stupid AI generated feedback. I don't want AI generated feedback. This waters down any possible meaning of the entire concept of the whole reason for feedback. Sure it's disappointing not to get noticed when feedback can matter in competitive selling situations, but now everybody is going to have the same feedback so long as the avoid Negatives, so what is the use... I don't want it at all... don 't care they give it to everyone else, but I'll take the feedback I earn from customers. I actually don't see any purpose to this program at all other than stroking some ego problems. Getting feedback from a machine not involved in the transaction is going to really mean a lot. NOT!

What cracks me up about this little tempest is that before there were sellers actually advocating for automated feedback: "There should be some kind of record that a transaction was successfully completed even if the buyer never left feedback!!!!!!!!!!! What's WRONG with you eBay!!!!!!!!!!"

So true. And many of the ones complaining about it now haven't even read what the new policy is all about. So much better to make an informed decision.

As a seller, I always leave feedback when the buyer pays and I mail out the item. Yet, over 50% of buyers do not leave feedback because THEY ALREADY RECEIVED THEIRS OR TOO LAZY. So what's the problem when eBay leaves positive feedback for the seller if the item was received and no complaints after 7 days? So now the sellers who are complaining about this are saying I, the seller, didn't earn the positive feedback by eBay? Oh pul eeeeze!

It reminds me of when the fixed price listings were converted to GTC - the scenarios people were coming up with why it wouldn't work were unbelievable. Gosh...we all survived and I'm not sure about everyone else, but I saved a ton of listing fees getting rid of those little short durations.

Before judging something, why don't you take a moment to educate yourself on why eBay is doing this.
It is about to be much more difficult, if not impossible, to get certain negative feedback removed. For instance, if you get a remorse return and do not refund the original shipping charges, something you are allowed to do, and a buyer leaves negative feedback because of it, eBay will not automatically remove that feedback. There is no indication on if a manual review will be possible. This brings me to my second point. Buyers who leave a negative will have an opportunity to edit out any parts of it that violate policy, rather than eBay simply removing it.
The changes in policy mean that even good sellers who simply follow what eBay allows them to do may end up with negative feedback that results in their feedback score being dragged down unnecessarily. Think about people who sell in categories that have higher return rates, like clothing. A clothing-only seller who accepts free remorse returns could end up with negatives for not refunding the original shipping. Depending on their volume level, if eBay did not level the playing field, depending on the seller's volume level, a good seller could end up with a feedback score in the low to mid 90s or lower. That will surely hurt their business for something beyond their control.
Bad sellers will still have lower scores, because people who buy from bad sellers have no problem leaving negative feedback. When buyers click on your profile, they won't see a bunch of automated feedback. Actual feedback from buyers takes precedent. If a buyer comes along later and leaves their own feedback, it replaces the automatic feedback. Most buyers do not click in to read feedback. They look at the score. I think this is mostly to address that issue, so that scores for good sellers are not dragged down.

It is not AI. It is a simple script that looks to see whether feedback from the buyer has been left within a certain time and generates a Positive for the seller if not. If the buyer DOES leave feedback after that then their comment will be put in and the default Ebay comment is removed.
Now can we PLEASE stop seeing AI behind every tree?

The purpose is to minimize the damage to the seller percentages by more accurately calculating the true ratio of Positives to Negatives and not basing the percentage on only those buyers who chose to leave a rating.

All ebay needed to do, if they wanted feedback to be more "fair", was to work out the feedback percentage against all sales. Not just the ones given feedback by the buyers.
While the end result may be the same, ebay's way seems more made up imaginary.

"It is about to be much more difficult, if not impossible, to get certain negative feedback removed. " It is true that Ebay is doing away with some if not all reasons to auto remove feedback. Meaning the seller will have to contact Ebay if the need arises to have feedback removed for cause. They are NOT however taking away the ability to ask Ebay to remove a feedback if it breaches one of the feedback rules. Sellers CAN still do that.
The process will still be available for all sellers to ask Ebay to removed any certain negative or neutral they want. Best if you give them what portion of the Feedback policy that it breaches. You would start with the automated version of contacting Ebay to have it removed, link below.
Go to the Seller Help page. Towards the bottom of the screen you will see a place to click on to submit the feedback for removal.
https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp/feedback?id=5566
If that doesn't work, then the seller should contact Ebay via one of the options. Usually Facebook or Twitter is best.
Now the change that is coming in October is concerning to me. And when a buyer's entire feedback left doesn't violate policy, Ebay gives the buyer an option to revise the feedback and take out the part that breaks policy. If the buyer doesn't, then the entire feedback is removed or if the entire feedback breaks policy, then Ebay removes it and doesn't allow the buyer an option to revise. I'm really on the fence about this one. We will have to see how it works when it goes into effect.
These changes are partnered with the change for Ebay to leave auto feedback for sellers when a buyer doesn't leave feedback. It will help to dilute the numbers when there are negatives a seller can't get removed. Still only time will tell if this is a good plan.
