Before you list anything-- are you registered for Managed Payments?
If not, eBay cannot transfer money to your checking account.
You need a checking account with a Canadian bank and probably one other form of ID. I used my passport, DH used his driving license.
You don't have to provide your SIN, and the micro-payments are glitchy.
When you do sell, as an occasional/returning seller your payment will be Held against your performance for 30 days. It's not personal, it's business, since new and occasional sellers are the most likely to run into unexpected problems.
