Your listing was removed: Offensive material policy

I was more than a little surprised to have a listing of a vintage rag doll abruptly taken down. I called in and was informed that it violated the new "offensive material policy" and exhibited "negativity" and "discrimination." It was a circa 1930 rag doll. A simple black rag doll that exhibited no exaggerated or mocking features. Out of curiousity I searched up "vintage black and/or African American rag doll" and found numerous similar to almost exact listings. I asked why only mine was taken down and was told they potentially simply hadn't gotten to all the rest. I asked what exactly was negative or discriminatory about this particular doll and received no other reply than it was black. I asked if the exact same doll happened to be white (and there are also numerous very similar vintage white rag dolls listed) would it violate the policy, and was told no. Interesting.

Rag dolls that resemble gollywoggs are considered offensive and are prohibited here in eBay.

Just because other sellers are selling a similar doll doesn’t mean it’s ok, it just means they haven’t been reported. Feel free to report them if you wish.

A white doll wouldn't be a racial stereotype, while ones that feature black or African Americans are stereotypes and offensive.  Just like all speeders aren't caught...feel free to report.  None should be listed.

I've no interest in reporting others (that is what was suggested to me by customer support as well). And my doll bares no resemblance whatsoever to a "gollywogg" - if it did, I would understand.

Re: Your listing was removed: Offensive material policy

If you think there's the slightest possibility someone might be "offended" by an item, don't list it.  Best to just pretend like it doesn't exist.  Don't base it on what you see listed either.  Having the same item as someone else doesn't make it good.  Many sellers items don't get caught or they don't care if they do.

My policy is not to make waves.  I don't list anything that might be offensive to someone.  That list is getting bigger by the day.  Unfortunately we live in a very hermetically sealed world now.  People don't have the fortitude to "not be offended".  I find it offensive how sensitive people are now but that's just me.

I guess I need to stop celebrating in St. Patrick's Day festivities, parades, participating in the local Shamrock run, and going to local annual Irish festivals.

Part of their woke agenda.

A large part of the buyers of these "offensive" materials are blacks.

This is also an attempt to cover up the past and who was responsible for that past.

I sold a 1920s booklet authored and published by a person who was a member of various groups including the KKK and the Democratic Party.

It was filled with numerous text and cartoons against blacks, Chinese and Jews.

It was the personal copy of former Democratic Party governor who has proudly signed the inside front cover while still in office.

Once these materials are gone then you can cover up the crimes.

Re: Your listing was removed: Offensive material policy

Same happened to me..no exaggerated features or anything.too bad because I like the black rag dolls myself. I Just don't understand how only selling white rag dolls isnt racist? One agent to talked to said they are going yo take all the black rag dolls down..another said that wasn't true and I should relist it..yeah right. Nobody there  is on the same page that's why they are going downhill.
