I just got this message a few minutes ago for the first time.  Why don't they just give us a new column next to watchers so we know what's going on.  Or are these just watchers?  Sometimes when ebay p*sses me off, I do the opposite, and it has worked a few times.  They said I should lower the prices on some of my items, so I raised them instead and several sold!  Unfortunately it just meant that ebay got a larger cut.

I just got one too, @theposhmermaids.   I checked my listings, and while some people might have both added an item to their Watch List AND placed an item in their cart, most of them hadn't.  The item was in their cart only, and was not being watched.

My question is, the message from eBay said: "Lower your price by 5% and we'll enmail the buyer to let them know."   So does that mean if I lower my price by 4.5% eBay won't bother?  Somehow I doubt that.  Anyone want to try a test?

I like your idea @theposhmermaids of doing just the opposite and raising my prices!  LOL.   Again, anyone want to test out what happens if that's what you do on an item that's sitting in someon's cart?  I'm game.

Well, one of the items eBay says was in someone's cart was the lowest price of its kind. I raised the price 5% and it sold. Great idea Lyns Cat. Daves dog would have never thought of that.

I wonder of they send "price has been lowered' emails on sold stuff (or even sold stuff from a MQ listing)?

As mentioned their was a previous thread and people were getting the "drop your price" message 3 and 4 days after the items had sold.  So it would not surprise me at all to hear that the "seller dropped the price" was delivered to buyers after they had purchased.

All four items of mine that supposedly are sitting in people's carts are still available/on my Active item list.

Reeeaaally tempted to raise the price on a couple and see what happens...  😉

I got TWO (count them... TWO) of those annoying nags today.

Lower your prices, lower your prices, lower your prices, lower your prices...

I get them a couple of times a week. I toss them in the electronic dust-bin.

I am not lowering my prices. eBay can lower THEIR prices FIRST. THEN we can lower our prices.

eBay is a software company. They provide an e-Commerce platform. They show a TOTAL lack of imagination. There are half a dozen ways they could improve the software to help us sell but do they do it? No. Lower your prices, lower your prices, like a sick parrot.

I've recieved several of these messages last week.   I looked at the 42 items in carts and raised the prices by 5 - 10 %.  This past week all items sold!

gopete I'd love to give you 100 kudos for that post.

Lowering prices seems to be the only thing eBay knows about selling more.

If I lower the prices anymore, I might as well just take everything to the Dump.  What little profit I make now are crumbs!

LOL   Okay, @sassykzt, that's it!    I'm raising the price on all four of the ones that I have sitting in carts and will see what will happen.

What's ironic is that when I re-listed three of the four this month, I *lowered* the price slightly to see if that would nudge some sales.   Will be putting them back up to where they were "thanks to eBay" letting me know they're in someone's cart.    Will update in this thread if/when anything happens as a result.  😉

What's interesting is that this month Etsy has rolled out the option for sellers to try and jiggle loose orders sitting in abandoned carts, but their approach (not surprisingly) is different from eBay's.

They sent a message to all sellers telling them that *if they'd like* to try and motivate potential buyers to buy items they've placed in their shopping carts, sellers can opt into a new program where Etsy will send a message to those buyers for 10 cents per.   Sellers have the option to decide what sort of incentive they'd like to offer the potential buyer -- free shipping, a set amount off, or a percentage.  Sellers can also put a cap on the number of abandoned cart messages they want sent out/pay for per month (only one is sent per incident) and sellers can opt out at any time.

The only thing is that the program is not retroactive -- if there are already items in people's carts, if you opt in, a nudge message won't be sent to them, only new "squatters" from the point onward that you opt into the program.

Many are reporting sales from opting in; others say it hasn't born any fruit for them yet.   Another group, of course, doesn't like the idea at all because they feel it either "trains" potential buyers to wait for a "deal" and/or it "cheapens" the perceived value of the items a vendor has to sell.

Regardless,  what is important is the fact that Etsy's approach is much more "seller-centric" giving sellers the option to decide what they'd like to do and not spamming the heck out of both buyers and sellers in an effort to try and motivate increased sales as is so often the case here at eBay.

So yes, @gopetersen,  there certainly is more than one way to skin a cat.  Would be nice if eBay at least once in a while would take off their blinkers and think more creatively.

@sassykzt   When you raised prices on your items you were notified were in people's carts, did you access each listing through the link that was included in the advisory eBay Message you received, or did you revise your listing using Selling Manager/Seller Hub?

Just wondering as I'd like to replicate your steps in hopes of getting a similar result!  😉
