Did you mean:

You can get negative feedback when a buyer thinks something should be included when it isn't!!!!!

I sold a customer a Garmin hand-held GPS.

The listing was unequivocal and explicit as to what was included in both words and pictures.  It was just the GPS with an attached lanyard.

The buyer left negative feedback because the item did not include a case, charger, and directions.

I asked eBay to remove the negative feedback stating it is unfair to let neg feedback stand based on what a listing DOESN'T include, i.e., I can only sell what I have.

eBay did let the negative feedback remain on my record for my listing not containing what the customer thought it should even though the listing explicitly spelled out what was included.

I've sold over 50 of these.  First complaint.

Do any other sellers know that if you can get negative feedback for not including something you don't have in a listing?

Unfortunately, eBay does not publish a list of ancillary items that must be included with the item being sold.  This is a great disservice to all sellers as it opens all of us to negative feedback.

I have a LOVE-HATE relationship with eBay.  Lately, it's tending more towards hate.

The listing opens with a gallery photo showing the product box, Then the description says it is not included 'to minimize shipping costs'. Seriously? Youre selling these for $159 but cant include the box?

It does list what is included but does not mention what you are leaving out - according to Garmin that model ships with a micro SD card & belt clip & USB cable which you do not mention - and it seems especially petty to leave out the instructions and quick start guide. Youve sold 41 of these according to the listing. Have you got a pile of 41 empty boxes - 41 SD cards - 41 belt clips and 41 instruction sheets sitting around?

I think a better response would have been something like this:

Sorry you did not read the listing to include the GPS and lanyard ONLY. You may return for a refund.

Your response sounds like he should have rec'd those items, but you did not include them bc you did not have them

First off and in all fairness to the OP, the listing referred to here has:
Unit and battery only.  No accessories.

Right in the description, also ONLY the GPS is shown in ALL of the pictures.

I'm really not sure how it could be any clearer than that.

It shows the box in the gallery photo but the box is not included. The text you quote is not in there either. I think you may be looking at a different listing. Click the link for the listing that is referenced below the Neg feedback comment.

You don't get it.  Petty to leave out something I don't have and have never had??  I am not buying these new and taking clips, cases, directions, etc. out.  I buy them used and repair them if necessary and then resell them.  I can ship first class if I do not include the box as I can keep the shipping weight under a pound.  I have included a  box when customers have asked for one.   Yes, I periodically throw several boxes away.   Manuals are easily found on line.  I have never researched what these came with originally as it was never germane to the listing.  The listing spells out exactly what is included.

Yes, that would have been a much better response.  The buyer never contacted me.  He just left neg FB about five weeks after I sold it.
