Recevied a question about a BIN I'm currently running from a guy from Japan-he wanted to know if I would ship to Japan if he paid the international shipping. I checked and I have the Ebay global shipping center option already enabled.
Should it be OBVIOUS to this guy that I will ship to him via the Global shipping program?? Or is he fishing for me to ship it OUTSIDE the Global shipping program to save a few $$$??
Also, what's the approximate surcharge to the international buyer when using the Global shipping center, as opposed to my shipping internationally without using the program??
TIA.

Are you telling us shipping outside of the Global Shipping Program is less expensive?

I imagine he wants it direct as the global shipping includes customs charges...... one of those knives is $50 shipping thru GSP.......... may be alot less thru regular interrnational first class......
Only way to check the difference......to some extent... is to plug the weights in at USPS site and see what they are and then check the prices shown on your listing.

Shipping to Japan via GSP is $49.00 and change on one of your knives.
Yes it is probably less via USPS direct, although I would just leave it as is.
Are you sure there are no restrictions on knives? I would double check on that and only offer US shipping if that is the case.
GPS will take item if not allowed via GSP, then refund the buyer from Pitney, then list it via the liquidator for US only shipping.

It most certainly is cheaper, safer and quicker to use a comparable USPS [with tracking and sign for notification of delivery] and like wise with Royal Mail from the UK to Australia than this GSP ripoff.
The postal service here is equal to if not better than US & UK especially in regards to what the GSP affords. Certainly more secure than FedEx that some buyers can change the delivery address in transit, meaning Item Not Arrived claims against sellers.
Furthermore, there are no sales taxes payable in the US or the same VAT nor any import duty for goods under AU $1,000. [if above this level its 10% payable by the buyer/importer - exception is tobacco products & some wines which has a higher scheduel rate applied].
So, whats the GSP benefit? I see none at all.... in fact it's a huge negative.
You ship to them with all due care and respect to the maybe fragile nature of the goods and they open and repack to suit their own cheapest means possible method that can compromise safety, never mind the care and wishes of the seller and buyer here.
Then they can use undisclosed 3rd rate contractor agents in delivery stages then maybe you find it is delivered by another courier system... not home at the time... apply for redelivery and perhaps wait half a day till the guy gets around to your place.
You can bet they employ workers at minimum wage rates.
Oh, and we now learn maybe confiscate innocuous items and won't return to seller, instead sell off on a live auction to recover their peanut costs. Not great when some of these items are not well disclosed on prohibited goods lists and it's a collector selling to collectors who both appreciate the virtue of items that the GSP mob don't... it's just a number and profit to them.
The sole thing they do, as needed and simple for a seller here to do is fill in a customs CN22 declaration form. There is no need for a seller to lie on that form.
So, what does GSP do for me? They overcharge and provide less than I can get from USPS or RMail, and increase anxiety.
I have a secure, sound US based shipping agent too. It provides better than this GSP can and important for some sellers, the much hated ebay MBG liability ends when the item is signed for at the shipping agents US address.
Canadian buyers will tell the same thing [except the import duty the buyer pays to get the goods.]
So, Are you telling us shipping outside of the Global Shipping Program is less expensive? YES

There is supposed to be one benefit for sellers using the GSP. Higher visibility in search.

To me, that item does not appear to have been in the GSP.

The trumpet case completed listing shows that you ship only to the US. It does not show the GSP list of countries.
If it's showing in your settings that GSP was enabled for that listing, then there may be a glitch that did not show this to the buyer.

The buyer would have been wiser to ask the shipping alternative question prior to bidding.

They were able to bid on it, so you had allowed Internat shipping, probably only via GSP.The only way to see yourself the quoted cost and 'obvious' GSP method [including allowing for alternative means] would be to review the listing NOT logged in on the site the buyer used [Japan site?] ie. as a Japanese buyer. Just enter the item number in search field and maybe filter to Completed listings. Then you see the GSP cost they face. As a seller you only see the cost you pay to get it to US GSP butchery centre.
I could try from here and see if I can change the 'shipping to' destination, but that seems to only work with non-GSP Internat shipping items.
I too, looked at the quoted fees for shipping one of my knives to Japan and was astounded to find it would cost 50-60$$. Im thinking, based on weight, it MIGHT be $15-20 to ship to Japan. FWIW.Like I suggest, check it out from the Japanese buyer perspective, and tell.

You don't need to log out of ebay.com or log in to any international sites to see the GSP shipping charges.
Go to the Shipping and payments tab on the listing. Open the dropdown box for Change country. Change it to whatever country you want and the GSP charge (not including possible additional import charges) will be shown.

You pay fifty cents per item, per country. GSP items will be buried, "because of the costs". They are pushing diy international and are pushing dhl.
????
What is this "fifty cents per item, per country" of which you write?
05-28-2018 11:46 AM
Ebay does not want you to use the Global Shipping Program. They want "do-it-yourself" shipping internationally.
Doesn't look that way from here, from outside the US, as a buyer. Here we are the victim of this high cost method, where ebay sell this to buyers as 'great'. The sales pitch here is very lacking in detail and rich in rhetorical tricks.
AU sellers haven't had the GSP option for Internat listings. I suspect many here will 'smell the bullstuf' and avoid like the plague.
You pay fifty cents per item, per country.
What does this mean?
They are pushing diy international and are pushing dhl.
I haven't noticed this push on ebay.com site.
I've noticed some GSP pushback by sellers and users.
