Would you have asked the buyer before shipping?

I sold a brown & white widget the other day.

The listing had several pictures of a brown & white widget.

The item specifics said it was brown & white.

The item description said brown & white.

But the title mistakenly said "orange & white".

I immediately made the correction to the title.

I'm 99.9% sure he wanted the brown & white one, so that's what i shipped him.

I didn't want to delay the shipment by double checking with him what color he wanted first.

Now that .1 % is bothering me. Should i have asked first?   Would you have?

When in doubt, I always ask before shipping, but then I have 3 day handling for my sales, and have a "time" cushion.

Hopefully, even if they did not read, it is quite evident from the photo, that it is "brown",  but...............

I would have asked and let the buyer know I needed an answer by EOD since their package was shipping in the morning. Then if I didn't hear back from the buyer by end of day I would have shipped.

My answer would depend upon what the widget was and how much it cost me.

If it was a $5 item that only cost me $1, I would have just shipped him both.

If it was a $100 item, I would have asked and risked a shipping delay. (IMHO this is exactly why eBay gives sellers a margin for error in their late shipping metrics.)

The only thing I see that is orange and white is a sticker ? I see nothing brown and white. It is hard to answer without seeing the listing. My "guess" is if the picture and the description was correct you will be fine.

thing is now when I view that ended listing,  eBay shows me lots of "sponsored " hats with "orange" 😋  Expect your buyer to have seen the same.  I can tell the difference in brown, and orange, maybe some can not.

@coffeebean832

OK, I would think that would be a no brainer and the buyer is expecting what is in the picture.

Didn't read the description, and did not see the photo.  Now what?

Hopefully this all works out for

How many times do you see complaints from sellers on these Community postings about buyers who didn't read the description?    Even so, you are probably safe from 'down-the-road' problems.  I don't know what type of stuff you sell, but you must have a good feel for what type of a customer base you have.

If you don't normally have to deal with returns or little problems once the item gets to wherever it's going to, I'm sure you'll be fine.   Even if you do have a problem, you're already ahead, because you've anticipated what could happen so you should already have a plan in place on how to fix it.

Most of the time, it's when you get 'blindsided' by the unexpected and have to scramble to come up with a quick and easy solution.  You've probably already got one.

As you can clearly see, even the best seller on ebay (2020) screws up once in a while.   😉

I would’ve asked. This happened to me one time recently, I asked the buyer and he politely confirmed which size (my listing mistakenly had a size discrepancy in some areas) I thought he wanted. Everything was fine, I was easily able to absorb that late shipping ding.
