Worst buyer ever. How to cancel when she won't respond?

So I sold a thing. The day after the auction I messaged her saying I would ship the item out as soon as payment was made. Later that day, more than 24 hours after the auction ended, I hadn't heard from her, so I asked if she still wanted it. If not, I could second chance offer it, no big deal.

She messages back: "Fine offer it to the next bidder I won't do business with you I just got back in town and yesterday was a holiday I haven't even got a chance to log in"

Uhhh. okay. The holiday was MLK day. I didn't realize people put their computers and phones away then.

I message back saying I was just asking because I hadn't heard anything from her.

She says go ahead and cancel the order and she's not buying from me. She'll buy from someone else who cares about their customers and it sounds like I'm hurting for money. Oh and that I should be nicer next time so I keep customers.

Wow ok. I told her I wasn't a business and I am hurting for money because I'm getting married this year and I'm scraping all the money I have together to pay for it.

Anyway, she left negative feedback saying I demand payment 1 minute after auction ends. 24 hours is a minute apparently.

I set up a cancellation and she hasn't responded to anything. She has 0 feedback and has only had the account open since september, so what do I do? eBay customer service is horrible apparently. I can't find anywhere to contact them through email or phone over this matter. I feel bad for anyone who sells stuff on the regular.

Re: Worst buyer ever. How to cancel when she won't respond?

It seems that you were harassing the buyer, messaging twice the day after auction ended.

You open a case at 48 hrs, close it in 96 if she doesn't pay.  Don't act like a collection agency, that is not attractive.

You lost a sale because you were hounding the buyer for payment.  People have lives, and the auction ended on Sunday, apparently, on a weekend.  Ebay does not consider Sat and Sun to be business days.

I know sellers and ebay want payment asap, but please, a little restraint!  Consider listing fixed price, immediate payment required.  That may be best for you.

What payment demands? The only time I mentioned payment was my first message saying, verbatim, "Hi. I will ship as soon as payment is made. Thanks!"

and that message was sent the following day. Not a minute after it ended.

The point is your messages were unnecessary and harassing.  Buyer knows you will ship after payment.  While it wasn't a minute afterwards, it was rather quickly and seemed to be rushing the buyer.

Read up on UID cases and how to proceed.  It has also been posted in this thread.  Ebay allows you to open a case at 48 hrs, so you were too hasty in "reminding" this buyer to pay.

Re: Worst buyer ever. How to cancel when she won't respond?

OP, I know to you, your messages seemed appropriate.  But two messages from you the day after the listing ended was a bit much.  Just think how your messages may look to the buyer and learn how to let Ebay handle this for you, either through listing fixed price, immediate payment required, or through opening a UID case for payment.

Also remember that your responses to feedback will be read by your prospective buyers who will use it to decide if they want to do business with you, so a professional reply is best.

Re: Worst buyer ever. How to cancel when she won't respond?

My problem is that I haven't sold anything on ebay since 2001? I don't even know when. Point is, it's been over a decade for sure. That's how you did it back then as far as I can remember. From what I gather in all these replies, you're not supposed communicate anymore. I get it. You don't communicate with amazon when you buy things there or any other store. I guess it was still in my head that ebay was more personal and back then it definitely was. Either way, it's been noted. Thanks for all the info.

The hugemanatee that poor buyer must have suffered sitting there bidding away right up to the last hour before it sold and the radio probably announced AIR WADE and they had to abandon ship and they stayed underground the next day due to it being MLK day....

Yup, buyer was just mad for being called out so early on the payment.

Re: Worst buyer ever. How to cancel when she won't respond?

I think the part where you asked her if "she still wanted it" really set her off.  If someone buys something assume they REALLY WANT IT. When they get a message saying you better pay soon or I am going to give it to someone else, assuming they really really really wanted it. That would make them very upset. Sometimes you just have to wait, rather than stir the you know what. Sorry this happened. Hope you learned something important here, everyone here is being straight and  helpful as far as advice.

Yes, they were probably mad at the call for payment as well. That's why you don't push the payment-you let the system run it's course and if they no pay, then they get the unpaid notice from Ebay and then they can get mad at them--LOL!!!

Forgot to add--they cannot leave a negative feedback for Ebay, when they get mad at them when the unpaid item assistant communicates.

Except buyers almost always take it as a personal affront to their integrity and blame the seller instead of eBay.  We've all read countless threads of buyers who leave negs because sellers had the audacity to open an unpaid item dispute against them.

How dare eBay sellers expect timely payment for their items?

You are most welcome, OP, sorry this happened to you.  I can certainly understand that you would want to be paid quickly, but not everyone pays immediately.  Not everyone accepts advice, you are wise and reasonable for being open to it.

There was a buyer who left many negs for sellers that said, Opened a case against me when Ebay allows 7 days to pay!  It never occurred to her that the sellers could not open a case in 48 hrs if ebay did not let them or that Ebay and sellers prefer fast payment.

I usually send the invoice in 24 hours and say something like:

"We are reserving this item for you, and it is ready to be shipped when payment is received. You can proceed to checkout to make payment, or you can send us a message and request to cancel.

Thank you for your order!"

Then I wait for their payment or response. If no payment is made or request to cancel, I open a UPI case to get my final value fee credited to me. Then I place them on block, especially if they are nasty about it.

That's basically what I did, but people here are saying I was snarky and rude to her. I feel like I'm part of a big group troll right now.

Please don't feel like that, OP.  No one means it personally, just hoping you can see that many have the same opinion and you can learn from this.
