So someone purchased one of my $10ish items shortly before xmas. COVID delays did a number on the shipment, it sat then bounced around then sat some more. Buyer opened a case, demanding a refund, claiming it was an xmas gift that's wasn't going to arrive in time. I apologized and explained the pandemic situation, which this buyer was having NONE of. I then told the buyer to wait until the item arrives and return it to me for a refund, and I would cover the return postage, she was still irate.
In the mean time, in the resolution center, one of the options on my end to respond to the case was to add tracking info, which is what I did (even though it was already uploaded to the listing for whatever reason that's how the resolution center works). Tracking showed the package had recently moved and was en-route, it had just been delayed.
eBay then updated the status of the case to "case on hold" for something like 10 days or so. That was roughly a week ago, and ever since then she's been sending me harsh messages demanding her 9 dollar refund.
So yesterday, the buyer finally received her item, instantly responded to the case and sent me multiple messages "these headphones suck I want my money back right now". So now she opened the item, guess it wasn't really gift...and shocker, she doesn't like it! There's no point in her returning an opened item to me, I guess she can keep it! At this point I just wanted this person to go far far away, so I sent her a refund when I didn't have to, figuring that was it.
Then I instantly received my first negative feedback in probably 15 years.
So is there anyway to get this taken off? ebay put the case on hold, understanding the circumstances. I sent a refund when I didn't have to just so this buyer went away, and got a negative in return.
not only that, but I can't even leave her feedback the option is gone...LOL.

You received a Neutral and not a Negative. When leaving feedback for buyers remember you can only leave them Positive feedback and you cannot leave negative comments.

No big deal. Everyone gets a bad customer once in awhile. Just leave it alone and continue doing what you do. Don't let it stress you as it is only a neutral. I would not even reply to the person or the feedback.

@mrcap840 Naw this is nothing, just a neutral. You got your first troublesome buyer, it was bound to happen. It's part of selling online. Plus people are very stressed out over a variety of issues these days. This will have no affect on your selling account. It doesn't affect your percentage and no one will notice it.
Concentrate on selling and this will fall to your second page quickly. You did nothing wrong here and this wasn't personal. Don't allow this bad buyer to live in your head. Best of luck to you....

you can respond to her feedback if your so inclined to. put her on your buyer block list and move on

I had 3 of these happen to me over the holidays.
I apologized to the buyers. Explained the situation. Gave the buyers a full refund.
I told each buyer when the item does show up (and it will) they are welcome (but not required) to pay for it.
When the tracking showed "delivered" i sent the buyers a money request and each one (all 3) payed.

Tagging on. I would have refunded her the $9.00 as soon as the abuse started. That's me. I'm not going to take $200.00 worth of abuse over $9.00
Then after blocking her, I'd never look back. The neutral will fall off the front page soon enough.
Response: "I'm sorry the USPS disappointed both of us. I've refunded you"

All that and when we finally get to the punchline it's about a neutral feedback?

I would have sent a return label, I would take an additional loss to get an item back, Seller
giving refunds allowing the customer to keep the goods is making this become a habit for
some buyers to scam people.

A buyer being apologetic/disappointed/pleasant about a situation and with a reasonable sounding issue, even a week past my 30 day return period, gets a refund without a return on small sales. The minute someone gets nasty, they can box the thing back up and send it back on my nickel -- no refunds without return.

If you think this is the worst buyer ever, you have been incredibly fortunate so far. This is nothing.

LOL
I had a guy hit 15 BIN listings of mine and then not pay. Then when I filed the 15 NPBs he left me 15 Neutrals.
