May 31st I sold a 14k Gold 1919 Hampden Paul Revere Pocket watch for $1200... I sold it to a pediatric doctor in D.C.... He got it and was amazed at the condition and called it museum quality in his feedback...
Well, I received a check in the mail yesterday for $1000 from him.. He thought it was only fair... He took the watch to a place to look at and they offered him $8000 for it... The watch actually had an interesting history but didn't go into details though..
Reminds me of a time about 10 years ago.. I bought a painting of a woodpecker on panel board with "Morris 1940" hand written on the bottom.. I paid $5 for it at the auction... I listed it on eBay for about $50 and someone from the Morris Graves museum is Seattle Washington saw it and they contacted me and I sold it to them for $800.. Apparently, the painting was lost in the 70's from what they told me..

Once... back in my days of restoring vintage advertising clocks and signs, a buyer of one of my clocks sent me one of his own to restore. We agreed on a price and he sent payment in advance along with the clock.
I was working away on it and sending periodic photos showing the progress when he suddenly sent me a PayPal payment for the same amount all over again. He said he had no idea the work was going to be this thorough and thought I deserved more for it. 🙂

Awesome on both counts. I have experienced nothing anywhere near that level. Once I had a buyer mail me a check for ten dollars for getting his item to him safely. I also had a prototype game and the company that produced it wanted it for their museum, but asked me to donate it.

Sometimes it works in your favor and sometimes not. Great story and congrats on the tip!
May be a good idea to have a watch dealer on your side locally that can advise you of value when you get items like this. The same goes with Vintage musical instruments and jewelry. There is so much out there that its sometimes impossible to know what you have.
Happy 4th!

Fifteen or twenty years ago we sold a sealed package of "Seasoned Tomato" flavored Jello, with a '2 cents off' coupon printed on box. It was made on 6/11/1958.
We know the date because the Kraft Heinz company, who owns the brand, told us that when we called them for info ... and then bought it on ebay for $90 'for their museum' - THEN sent us a photo of the display and $100 in coupons
Haven't thought about this is years.

With all the stories on here of people getting ripped off with phony INAD's and returns this was a great post. Glad to see there are honest people out there.
Enjoy the greatest holiday for the USA

The only thing that comes even close (not in Dollar terms) was a recent sale to Ireland, 2 items one of which I swapped with a different buyers order.
I told them to keep the mis-ship and I would send the correct item. I mentioned how this was a rare occurrence and that my "punishment" would be the loss of the wrong item sent and the cost to ship the replacement.
The buyer offered to pay the shipping for the replacement because she felt bad that it was going to cost me extra money. Of course I thanked her for the offer and declined. I got a nice feedback when the replacement showed up which is more than I would normally expect.
Some people are just really nice! (or foolish depending on your viewpoint).

I'll go for "really nice", because they're the ones who are living life well.

Today you couldn't even list an old sealed box of jello on ebay due to being an expired food product.

That is a person that believes in paying it forward. What a wonderful story to share. Thank you. That is a man that respects his fellow humans. I bet he is a good doctor too because he really cares about other.
I had a buyer once send me an extra $20. I thought that was so generous of them and for them I'm sure it was as he wasn't a doctor.
😍
