Wish me luck...

So, I've listed a few of the items I've had a tough time selling as .99 cent auctions with no reserve.  Most of these comics are worth more than a few bucks, and a couple are worth much more, but I figured if I'm gonna give it a shot, why not list a few of the higher-priced books and see what happens.

Funny, I have very few views on any of the auctions, and only one bid.  *L*  Eh, what can you do?  🙂

Re: Wish me luck...

Have you checked sold items to see what buyers are willing to pay for each one you have listed ? I have not researched for you but it is possible they are not worth your opening bid of $7.64 each. Think like a buyer. Would you think you are getting them for 99 cents opening bid, or for $7.64 opening bid ?

Re: Wish me luck...

The way I see it, a buyer's gonna have to pay the postage, regardless, so why not use a service that's not only safer (I've had zero issues using Priority Mail, knock wood), but faster?  And it really boils down to a difference in shipping cost of about a buck-fifty.  Media Mail, unfortunately, is a no-no, though I think the USPS should take another look at that with regard to comics more than a few years old.

I've only once had a customer question my shipping practices, and that was due to cost.  Other than that one time, no one's questioned me about it, at all.

I appreciate the input, thanks!

Re: Wish me luck...

And yes, I do a lot of research when I list my items.  Not only selling/asking on Ebay, but book values, as well.  Usually, I can keep my prices at or below FMV.  Most of the time FAR below FMV.  I have a comic listed right now that books for almost 125 bucks.  My opening bid has dropped to 34.99.

I don't make a ton off the comics, as I've said before, and that's not really my goal.  My goal is to be able to continue the "hunt".  🙂

It might be that the phrase "tough time selling" is really just another way of saying "very little demand"

From my vantage point, that sort of item is generally the least well-suited to the auction format.

Basically, it doesn't seem to matter whether it's comic books or antique vases, baby blankets or designer handbags, if it's anything somebody wants and the price is decent, that will usually result in a sale.  It may take running it through a couple of times for an interested buyer to see it as it makes its run, but (again) if a buyer WANTS it, it's darned near impossible to prevent them from buying.  Smiley Very Happy

And, this will be a good way for you to test those 'prices' you have looked up.  I know there are a lot of things that The Books state are worth X number of dollars, but nobody gets nearly that much for those things because nobody will pay that for them.  In other words, as it turns out... some things aren't always worth on today's market as much as those books claim.  This will let you know the truth of it for your chosen category of merchandise.  Good luck with your auctions!!!  Hope when the final seconds run out, you have some good bids.

Re: Wish me luck...

I NEVER go by book value.  I've been in comics my whole life, and I know there's always wiggle room.  And when Ebay came along, book value went out the window.

I've thrown most of these books up a few times, already.  We'll see what happens.  🙂

Comic book fans are fickle.  A book that means nothing today will be their world manana.  *L*

Someone who's missing them will eventually find them.  🙂
