Will we have a repeat of last year's holiday shipping delays ?

I had a few packages that took a month or a little more to reach their destination. However i did not lose a single package. Had a couple of very patient buyers, thankfully.

Re: Will we have a repeat of last year's holiday shipping delays ?

@roslynroadshow91 ,

In my recent experience, USPS has been delivering packages promptly, without delays, and frequently they are being delivered ahead of their estimated delivery dates. I have less recent experience with the other major carriers, but that experience has been quite good as well. All these packages were shipped to the same address in the USA.

CarrierShippedDeliveredElapsedDistanceFrom
USPS3-Oct4-Oct1 days315 milesUSA
UPS31-Oct2-Nov2 days183 milesUSA
Fedex1-Nov2-Nov1 days207 milesUSA
USPS4-Nov6-Nov2 days730 milesUSA
USPS9-Nov16-Nov7 days4095 milesSweden
USPS11-Nov16-Nov5 days306 milesUSA

This is much better than my experiences last year at this time and through the holiday  season. All of my packages then were severely delayed (with all carriers) and one package was lost. All of the others were eventually delivered, but in some cases after more than a month.

For comparison, packages from Europe usually take about 2 weeks under normal circumstances. The package from Sweden had full tracking, and may have been shipped with an express service.

Re: Will we have a repeat of last year's holiday shipping delays ?

The only delays Im seeing is where my packages are going in circles LOL

Mailed a package the 12th, left my PO, went to Indianapolis. Departed Indy the next day, the next day it came back. Scanned three times, Departed again and seems to finally be on its way. (sigh) Was suppose to be delivered today. Hopefully the buyer is patient. Havent heard anything yet. It should be delivered tomorrow crossing fingers

I won't.

Too much stress last year. I will shut down at the end of the month.  Maybe I will like it so much that I will stay on time away.

Receipts from PO today has statement.

"USPS is experiencing unprecedented volume increases and limited employee availability due to the impacts of COVID-19 We appreciate your patience"

Re: Will we have a repeat of last year's holiday shipping delays ?

I'm planning on it happening again. Is there any reason why one would think it would be better this year? I had to go under the assumption that delays will happen again, and take measures accordingly.

Starting back in October, I began sending a message to every buyer asking for their patience on orders that may arrive later than either eBay's expected delivery date or that of the carriers. In the message, I also recommended to my buyers to be sure to do their online holiday shopping early enough to avoid receiving their purchases too late. This is especially important this year with the supply chain crisis for B&M stores, which in turn causes buyers to do more online purchasing - and more shipping as a result.

I told them that I ship out the following business day, and that when the items are turned over to the carrier, delivery timing is out of my control - so please remember this when it comes time to post positive feedback for me... funny thing, my feedbacks received, which had dwindled down to very seldom, started rising again as a surprising consequence -not bad!

So far, I have received many messages of thanks from my buyers. A proactive message really helps.

Cheers, Duffy
