Why

Why is Ebay telling me they are suspending my payments unless I agree to refund a customer that wants to return an item because it doesnt fit? I have a return policy and under the old system I did not refund until I received the item back. Is this part of the new Ebay payment system since they stopped with paypal? Not fair to me if it is. What if buyer doesnt return it ? Are they going to re-charge them? This stinks. I always honor returns as I have so few but I want my item back first. They are going to suspend payments for other items sold until I re-fund this?

Re: Why

Did you approve customers return request?

Never refund money until after customer returns item.   EBAY only "freeze money" for this particular transaction until everything is settled.

Re: Why

If buyer submitted a claim, most likely for item not as described, you will have to accept, then a return label is issued, buyer sends item back to you, and upon receipt, a refund is issued. No action on your part will result in eBay siding with buyer, refund submitted, and they get to keep the item. So, it s best for you to accept.

The flip side to all this is that some buyers have found ways to scam sellers by submitting fraudulent claims, sending bogus items, and getting the refund and keeping the shirt.

Re: Why

Have you accepted the return? Because  you have a 30 day return  policy the buyer can return an item for any reason, including it doesn't fit.

If they opened a case saying it's not as described you have to agree to accept a return and provide the return label. You refund when it's been returned.

If they opened a return request using doesn't fit as the reason you must accept the return and the buyer is responsible for the return label cost.  Again, you refund when you get it back.

Refunding automatically removes the payment hold that happens when a return is requested or a case is opened.

Re: Why

You accept returns on your listings, so why are you hesitating to accept this one? You are simply being held to what you agreed to in your own listings. They aren't saying you have to refund before you get the item back, you just have to accept the return to start the process of returning the item. Best of luck to you....

@rubycat118  You're over-thinking this.  Accept the return, the buyer returns the item, THEN you refund.

Re: Why

No, no, no. That's the way it is supposed to be but the exact wording I got from Ebay was they were suspending further payouts until I resolved the issue with a refund for a buyer that just decided to refund because it didn't fit. I never didn't refund an item. I have a 100% rating. Never even had a neutral. They worded it that I needed to accept and refund before they would send me funds from any other sales. If I had to show you the e-mail I would. Not over-thinking it at all.

Re: Why

@rubycat118,

You still have several options when you get a return request. Because you have a return policy, but it's not being accepted automatically, you will need to respond to the request by accepting it. That's what eBay is asking your to do at this point. Your 3 options are:

  1. Accept the return, and issue a full refund when you get the item back.
  2. Accept the return, and if the item has been used or damaged by the buyer when you get it back, you may be eligible to issue a partial refund.
  3. Accept the return request (without a return), and issue a full refund; the buyer keeps the item.

So at this point, eBay is asking you how you want to handle this return. Do you want the buyer to return the item or not? You need to accept the return, and indicate if you want the item to be returned or not.

When a return is started, eBay puts the amount needed for the refund on hold. Here's how they manage the funds needed for a refund.

Sometimes eBay puts holds on a seller's payouts. Here is more information about why this may happen:

You haven't sold very much recently (less than 10 seller feedbacks in the last 12 months) so you are evaluated as a new seller.

Re: Why

Lol, I know, I most likely will wash it and add Lysol Laundry sanitizer and will have to re-list it as such because they were only tried on from my end and never worn. I'm glad I get so few returns  because you just never know

Re: Why

No one gets it because that is not the way it was worded and it clearly stated in the e-mail that it would suspend any OTHER payments for other items paid for until I agreed to this one. I never turned down a return. The 3 options offered I read but they did not give me the option to accept it and wait until it was returned to refund like the rules state, it said future sales and payouts would be suspended until I resolved this and those items and sales have nothing to do with this refund.

What you describe is really oddly worded.  Believe you - this would be an odd direction for e-Bay to go.

We just had a return and no mention from e-Bay except about that return and the window reminder to refund.

Re: Why

No they did not open a case. They just very nicely did a request to refund which is not a problem. Ebay is the problem not honoring the 3 options they offer with the rules. They threatened to suspend payments on other sales until I refunded and accepted return.
