Hi, the reason these items are restricted is because the third party processor has restrictions against selling them.
“Why does eBay have this policy?
We work with external payments processors to manage payments on eBay, and these processors have their own restrictions on what items can be sold. As a result, sellers participating in managed payments have additional restrictions on the items they can list.“
Why such an entity would restrict what can be sold is not explained in the policy, but like you, i would like to know as well. My next question is why would eBay choose a processing company that had such restrictions? Those categories have some robust sales.

Right there in the article:

They just don't have the setup or experience yet to handle that stuff......it can still be sold as paypal will accept payment for it I think........not sure about the adult stuff.

Apparently, they feel that the marketplace is SO successful that they can easily reduce the items they (we) offer and still turn this ship around. Vehicles, bullion, coins and paper money are some of the biggest money makers on eBay.
Even Amazon is running holiday ads on TV, and they don't need to. But eBay thinks THEY are the ones who everyone trusts and loves so much that they will just FLOCK here to buy, that they don't need to advertise. They just want us to buy Facebook ads lol.
It's going to be funny to watch what happens when they get rid of StubHub and Classifieds, and all they are left with is this failing marketplace that they obviously don't know how to manage. Take a bigger cut from sellers? A bigger cut of WHAT??? We're drained dry already!

Managed returns means you take returns for any reason. Do you really want to take back some of those adult items that "don't fit?" or event tickets you can't resell in time? Or gold where the value fluctuates? If the price fell that's too bad, they could force you to take it back. What about coupons where the buyer no longer wants to buy the item? They expire, too. Each day closer to the exp date makes them less valuable to the point they could be worthless. I think eBay is spot on. How do you return a campground membership?

That is exactly what I want to know, there are possibly MILLIONS of $$$ that pass through eBay at any given time...??? in these categories... just has Me in TOTAL state of confusion as to WHY? eBay would take this route.

Managed Returns is a totally different thing than Managed Payments (basically the NEW paypal).
On another note: Why in the world would they restrict selling MOTOR VEHICLES???? Boats, Planes, Trucks, Motorcycles, ATVs, RV's etc.???
11-07-2019 10:49 AM
That really won't matter if You can't list in those categories. would it???

That's a huge hoop with a very tiny opening!!!! It will probably eliminate quite a few sellers when MP is fully implemented.

But what if they list with paypal only, which it sounds like they would have to - wouldn't that go thru Adyen anyway?
Otherwise there will be no bullion, no cars, etc. listed here anymore. Unless they went back to checks and money orders ....

Even PayPal has restrictions on what you can buy or sell using PP.
What I find telling on that page is they don't say what the "other options" are for sellers in those categories if they can't use MP and supposedly "all sellers will eventually be enrolled in MP".
Do they, like all the offshore sellers, still get to use PayPal?
