Why oh why did ebay bring back variable time limit offers? I thought we banished this 5 years ago

This is a continuation of an unresolved issue which a mod bafflingly closed. The original is located here:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Why-oh-why-did-ebay-bring-back-variable-time-limit-offers-I/td...

In that discussion, it was pointed out that if a buyer wants a shorter period for an offer, they're allowed to retract their bid/offer for any reason at any time.

The counter argument to that is that retracting bids/offers is against ebay policy, and that buyers are punished for doing so.

The counter to that argument is reality. There are tons of BUYERS out there with literally hundreds and thousands of bid retractions, who are still allowed to roam free on the site.

Is there some new information that wasn't covered in the seven pages of that thread?

additionally there is a lot of evidence that buyers already have the functionality to retract their offers whenever they want, at no cost and no penalty.

another thing someone PMed to me, if eBay's concern is ACTUALLY about speeding up the transaction they say, and not just empowering the buyer, then why is a buyer allowed to select 12, 24, or 48 hour offers, however the seller is only allowed to counteroffer with 48 hour offers?

This is a buyer-centric platform and many buyers have expressed frustration with being on the hook for 48 hours while the seller is free to sell to others with no restrictions. This is ebay's response to their frustrations.

Part of the problem from a buyer's perspective is that some sellers offer immediate accept / decline which I have no way of knowing if the offer I'm about to submit will be immediately accepted / declined or if I have to wait, except I can submit the offer and find out, then retract if I don't want to wait or... I may place an offer as well, then 5 minutes later find a whole slew of items for a BIN price even lower than my offer!

So retract the offer and buy one of the new finds, done.

There are simply only so many ways a buyer can "tag" an item of interest that they have not yet decided to buy, the best offer is one of those, we only have so much room in our watch item list and believe me mine takes scrolling and perusing to find what item was I looking for?

it is definitely a buyer-centric platform, however 4 hour offers don't even help the buyer that much. it just makes it so sellers miss more offers, leading the buyer to think the seller is ignoring buyers. Especially since the buyer can just retract their offers with no penalties.

WHICH IS BAD FOR BUYERS.

and certainly bad for ebay, if the buyers don't like being ignored just go to a different platform entirely.
