Why is with the eBay site constantly crashing?????

I swear 25%+ of the time, while trying to list on eBay, it crashes.  I develop the listing, add pictures, etc and then when I try to save it, it acts like it is thinking.  Then, all of a sudden, the "It not you, it's us" splash page or "We Looked Everywhere" page comes up and everything I just did is go.  WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!!

Previously, it wouldn't save my descriptions when I published a listing.  Then, there was the issue where the descriptions were replaced with a "Puffer Jacket Boy Looked Everywhere" description after they were published.

@malachi-9 and @a_c_green

I thought that the problem was VPN for a while. I would turn (Norton) VPN off and it would appear to be OK and work reliably for hours, but today (Memorial Day) and yesterday that stopped being the case.  The problem is that it is so intermittent. Say I do something (like turning off VPN) and it starts working—did what I did fix it, or was it just coincidence?

Users have been cleaning cookies and changing browsers and devices etc. and no one has reported that this makes any difference.  So it doesn't seem to be a "client-side" issue. On the other hand, most users doing listings don't see it, so it's not simply something wrong with the eBay listing page.

And the intermittent nature of it says that it's not a "hard coded" failure on either side—it's something that comes and goes or gets triggered by some data, program, or routing event. Unless users or eBay can identify what consistently generates the problem, it's going to be a tough one to debug.

Thanks for your contributions on this. I hope eBay is listening.

I'll give it a try with VPN off from the beginning (though the intermittent nature of the problem will make it hard to be sure if it does work).

I once had a somewhat similar problem with a low-volume website that a friend of mine owned. The error messages all said that the DNS translator didn't have the address for his site. It went on like this for months—other people had no problem. (Apparently, they were being routed by a different DNS server.)

Also, there can be problems with web data caching: things get stale or corrupted at a web caching site that serves a certain fraction of users, so something looks wrong for some users but are fine at the server side.

This is a Community thread, member to member.  Ebay isn't listening.

If it's "local to me" then why are there multiple posts every day about this?

A full shut down and clean reboot has fixed some of the issues for me in the past - there are often conflicts from all the layers of software constantly updating in the background.

There aren't.  This is the first thread on this subject in a while.  No wait, there was one other one I saw last month.

There still seems to be a misunderstanding of that a "crash" pertaining to computers actually means.  And nothing that has been described in any post here is even close to a "crash" and certainly not of the Ebay site.  You can't access anything on a site that has Crashed.  Not a thing.

From what I've read, yes it seems to be something going on with personal internet quality, modem, router,  pop up stoppers, security software, hardware, etc.

Ebay has over 18+ million active sellers, it would not be something unusual if a handful of these sellers were experiencing the same kind of problems as have been described here.  There are so many of us, it could happen easily.

No there wasn't.  The Ebay site has NOT "crashed" in years.  The entire site did NOT go down.  Now I certainly believe you experienced some issues.  I get that.  It is going to be very hard for you to get help if you can't describe accurately what happened.  And the site did not crash.

You may want to try to post, in detail what is happening to you on the Technical board.  Possibly you will find some help there that actually will work for you.

Yes there has been more posts than the two you say and I never used the word crashed. When a site is unusable that to most people means crashed. Couldn't list, items not searchable, can't access watch, bid or purchases page. Reporting tech issues isnt helpful, all you get is " we will pass it along" and months later nothing is done. One of the posters said she has been dealing with it for weeks.

Have you tried the Tech board?  That is where you should find others that have the same or similar issue as you have.

No, as I said it's pointless. You act like I'm the only person this is happening to. I replied to this post I wasn't the op. So I know I'm not then only one having problems.

And just saw another post of the same problem back in April, with multiple people experiencing the same issues. Just because things are right on ur end doesn't mean all is well. Different servers different issues.

I have seen the same thing over the past month or two.  Unable to list.  Homepage not working.  Search not working.  NOT a connectivity issue because I can go to ANY other site when this happens and I have no issues.  When it temporarily happens I wait 10-30 minutes and seems to be usable again.  Repeat - does not happen when I go to any other sites.  Been selling here for 20 years and it has never been like this and I have used the same internet provider for a few years with no major issues.

I've been having problems selling similar, try to change price and it freeze's, also when I click to to list them it will just sit and do nothing. Lucky I don't have duplicate listings because even though it freezes the listing go thru.

To add more the seller hub locks up when I go to change date listed to see if those listing went thru.

Same here, doesn't last for long it's just an annoyance when trying to kick out the listings. I've been on eBay for over 10 years and also haven't ever seen it this bad. There's been a lot of posts on Reddit as well about this issue. Good luck to you
