Honestly, who do we work for? Do we work for ourselves or eBay?
Why is there a 30 day limit to "time away". What if my vacation lasts 31 days? What if my vacation lasts 6 weeks? What right does ebay have to dictate to me how much time I can take on my vacation?
This isn't right or fair. Ebay needs to lift that limit or raise it. One way or another forcing people to fit into a box when they want to take time off is not fair to anyone.
PLEASE change this... This is actually something worth changing.

Wow, quite the overreaction. You can’t find a minute in your time off to reset it?
[smh]

None, but they have the right to run their web site the they want.
If you need more then thirty days, end the Time Away and restart it.

If they made it unlimited, there would be Sellers who would come back and be upset their listings were gone after 90 days.....
Are you headed out for the winter or something?
It would not be prudent to be on time away and not still monitor e-Bay - what if a claim opens or there is a return request? Just because your listings are hidden does not mean as a Seller you do not need to remain engaged to your account, etc.
Sorry this feature upsets you. Used to be only Sellers with Stores could access something like this. Pretty nifty it applies to all Sellers now.

The listings wouldn't be gone after 90 days, because they'd be active listings the whole time. Only completed/ended listings are purged after 90 days. IIRC the "vacation" setting had no time limit and that didn't create any problems.

How certain are you that it is able to be "reset" right away? I wouldn't be surprised if there was a day or more delay restricting you from "resetting" it.
The point is I should be the one who dictates how long I want to be shut off from selling.
I usually take the month of December off to focus on family and work on updating and inventory. Last year (December 3rd to be exact) was the last day I sold until being shut down until Jan 2nd. I had to do this because of the 30 day limitation. December 3rd was my last day processing and shipping my ebay orders. Every single item I sent out on December 3rd was either lost or delayed delivery until FEBRUARY by the USPS.
This year I expect delays and lost mail worse than last year. The USPS has already warned us of this. If I was able to I would shut down my site Thanksgiving day and not re-open until Jan. 2nd. (I do monitor my email, etc during this time). I'm still here, just shut off from sales so I can play catch up with inventory, etc.
Point being, even if I'm hoping to avoid the USPS log jam, I may not be able to because of the 30 day limit. I can't even begin to explain what a nightmare that was last December/January.
I'm sensing a lot of hostility from fellow sellers on here. Don't exactly know why that is, you don't know me or my circumstances. I would never trivialize a fellow sellers concerns. And defending eBay as "big brother" is a cheap thing to do.

Well the point of "time away" formerly known as "vacation mode" was to KEEP your listings active without ending them so you wouldn't lose them by taking time off.
If you ended your listings, then you could lose them.

That's a cheap shot. We DON'T WORK FOR EBAY! It's OUR store! We PAY THE FEES! Ebay telling us how much time we can shut down for is NOT THEIR BUSINESS when we're the ones PAYING THEM! We're still PAYING THEM for our listings and subscriptions while we're "ON VACATION"!
POINT... THEY'RE STILL GETTING PAID!

eBay is not dictating how much time you can take on vacation.
They are dictating how long you can use the Time Away tool.
If you are gone more than 30 days, then you can simply end your listings.
That's what I did for my recent 9 day vacation.

That's too risky. I've seen "ended" listings disappear without cause because of some glitch. The longer they sit "ended" the higher the risk of you losing them completely. I can't risk that.

Probably because Ebay wants to be sure sellers don't list and then prevent sales for an inordinate time. While you pay for a store, ebay also, understandably, wants fvfs for revenue.

If you need to close your listings for longer than 30 days, just close them.
You can do it with one click.
They will go to your Unsold Listings for 60 days.
Bonus.
You will not be charged listing fees for the second month (if there were any, which doesn't happen often any more).
If you have a monthly Store subscription you can end that too, with no penalty and start a new one when you return.
Mark your calendar.
When Day 58 rolls around, go to your Unsold List late at night and relist everything.
You can do this with one click.
Count to 10 , then close them all again for another 60 days.

I use a listing tool. My original listing is in the database on my computer.
I can "end" any number or all of my eBay listings before I go on vacation.
When I come back, I can easily relist every one of them....and eBay sees them as fresh listings.
Depending on your internet connection, it can take only hours to get your items relisted.
Of course the other advantage is I can create new listings while on break. Last year, with all the shipping issues, I shut down on Dec 15th. But I continued to create new items to be listed after the first of the year.
I use sixbit software. there are other listing tools who can do the same thing.

You can just reset the time.

There's no way I would end my store subscription or my listings. I've put decades of work into my ebay store.
