Why is there a time limit to "time away"?

Honestly, who do we work for?  Do we work for ourselves or eBay? 

Why is there a 30 day limit to "time away".  What if my vacation lasts 31 days?  What if my vacation lasts 6 weeks?  What right does ebay have to dictate to me how much time I can take on my vacation? 

This isn't right or fair.  Ebay needs to lift that limit or raise it.  One way or another forcing people to fit into a box when they want to take time off is not fair to anyone. 

PLEASE change this... This is actually something worth changing.

eBay is not dictating how much time you can take on vacation.

They are dictating how long you can use the Time Away tool.

If you are gone more than 30 days, then you can simply end your listings.

That's too risky.  I've seen "ended" listings disappear without cause because of some glitch.   The longer they sit "ended" the higher the risk of you losing them completely.  I can't risk that.

Wow, that's unlucky. I spent well over a decade ending hundreds of eBay listings every month and never lost a single one through "some glitch". 

Another option might be to simply log into eBay once a month and turn Time Away off and then right back on.

no wifi in my jail cell. how am I to do that for say 90 days or even a year...who wants to relist 100s or 1000s of items AGAIN. especially since we pay store fees the entire break away.

You could close your listings for up to 90 days.

But if you got distracted and forgot to renew, all those listings would disappear forever.

Just mark your calendar on Day 29, reopen for a few minutes, then go back on Time Away.

It's hard to imagine having no access to the internet at all these days. Even when we went to Cuba a few years ago I was able to connect and send some emails from the resort lobby. 

And most public libraries have computer access for free, although leaving a donation would be polite, since funding for public services is often spotty.

They are not dictating how long you can go on vacation. They are dictating how long they are willing to store data without some sort of input from the seller.

In the past the vacation setting required a store subscription and eBay received funds for that. It was a benefit for the store owner.

Now they have opened up Time away to every single seller on the site. 

Holding listings with no income actually costs money in infrastructure etc. They are required to maintain, manage and back them up. 

Could you imagine if every single seller had the ability to just turn off their listings for months and months at a time and have eBay be a data information repository for listing information and image storage with no benefit to eBay?

Heck they do not even store sold listings past 3 months.

Other companies do not store listing data and images without some sort of compensation. 

Would you be willing to pay for an extended vacation setting? I am guessing not.

I used to be gone for well over a month at a time and just flipped the switch on my (hidden) items for  vacation at about the 29th day - on/off.  Or, I just delisted everything and forgot about it.  That's going to be harder, I think, for OP who has a lot more listed than I ever have. The flip switch would work better.  We're listing on someone else's territory we have to expect stuff like this.  If this were my own website, I could dictate what I wanted to do with my own personal vacation settings.

Ebay does not care about you or your problems.  If you think they do, get over it.  If you need convincing, call customer service about a question that's not in their concept; when they lie to you, which they have done to me on numerous occasions, you might being to "feel" it.  All you can do is put your head down and try to get along without them and their help, because, there really isn't any. It wasn't always this way, but for the last year, scams are up and Ebay's actual, effective help is waaaay down.  Hey, that's the way you treat people when you have millions of sellers all over the world, right? You can't help individuals when you're busy in your offices plotting how to scam a few pennies or percentage points off each sale. I've been a seller for 17 years and it's getting worse and worse.
