Hi Everyone,
I know this is a very popular question in this forum. I'm still a pretty new seller. Could I please get some constructive feedback from any long time sellers as to why my stuff is selling so slow/if at all/having to bring all prices down to practically nothing where it's not worth the time? I've read through a ton of stuff looking for clear answers. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thank You!

I was getting that authentication thing & was afraid I was going to lose my post.....
So...
Your issue right now mainly seems to be finding what to sell. (Known as "sourcing").
The economy might be great, but there are a whole lot of people on the edge trying to make it, in a variety of difficult situations.
(Housing is expensive, heat costs a lot, so does a dog) child care and elder care are an issue for many & being home to care for someone to may be necessary. I would say many here make $5 an hour just to take time to deal with care issues or to deal with their own ill health & treatment.
Therefore, items that sell have become crazy hard to find. While I used to buy things at thrift stores by the cart, now I walk out empty handed more times than not. Thrift stores have gotten in on the game & want top dollar. If you hAve a "source"for instance if you have inherited a lot of items, particularly of value, you may be able to make some money. Crunch the numbers.
One poster said not to sell an item for less than $10. Excellent point. But, if that item costs $10 to ship, your buyer is paying $20. That is the item is worth $20. eBay takes $2. PayPal takes $1. (Rounding off here). If you paid $2 for an item worth $20(unlikely, but possible) Your take is $5. For possibly an hour or more to research, clean, photograph, list, pack & ship. And that's not a smooth road.
Many times, I will find a really cool item & think its sellable. Then I look it up & find 400 for sale with 2 sold.... or I take photos & while editing I find a flaw that makes the item unsellable.
Then there are difficult buyers.....
Im not saying it's not possible.
But, there is just a lot to learn.
Personally we are looking to exit soon. Trying to squeeze out the last few pennies.
Best of luck.

Yesterday I put one of your items on my watch list. Today I got an offer from you for 40% off!!!!! This is on a $4.99 item with $10.13 shipping. Quick math shows that at best you will net $2.81 if I were to purchase it. Consider how much time you have in picturing, listing, and shipping. You are losing money!!!!! Impossible to stay in business that way. Not trying to be cold, just realistic. A sale that costs you money is not a sale. Hope this helps.

I sell a lot of sports stuff - while I don't think your prices are that bad - shipping for a hat sure is. I either list hats with free shipping or at a flat rate shipping of $4.00 for first class mail which will cover shipping to almost anywhere in the US. I don't even offer priority mail for anything that can be shipped first class mail.
That being said - after 20 years of selling on eBay my sales of sports stuff was at an all time low in 2019, and even worse so far in 2020. I can't explain it.

I would look for a more appropriate category for your 1990s Chevrolet Racing Tire Clock than the Antiques category.

It is clear as day to me. You are competing against other sellers with no concept of profit and they are desperate enough to lose money for the sake of a sale. After that sale they will come here to complain that they are not making any money or that they didn't make enough to provide good service to their customers or that they are starving to death because their $2 or $3 payout was held for a few days. Not good for buyers, not good for legitimate sellers, not good for eBay. The OP asked a question that only they can answer because they are not listening to the good advice they are getting here.

You are so kind to thank me for my posts!!
Yes, they may have been long! But, believe me, not detailed !!
I barely hit the high points of the issues selling on eBay
There is so much more!
its very hard.
Be careful what you put your time into.
However if you have the listings up & even the things wrapped, put them up at whatever the items will sell for.
Sending offers could be throwing more time away.
Sending offers hasn’t worked for us.
And if the things you have aren’t selling, seriously look at what you have to see if it’s worth your time. Your time is the only true currency. It may be smarter not to list some of your items!!
You have been so accepting & gracious answering others. I very much appreciate it. Sometimes we don’t see that on the boards.
Again best of luck!! One never knows...

try auctions if you can afford to give up some margins. I run on 150%+ margins at retail (I'm lucky). I do offer some items at best offer and will come off the price if things are slow. I've been doing a lot of auctions lately and getting 50%+ gross profit
