Why is Ebay charging a tax on a used or pre-owned item that sold?

The taxes were already paid on used/sold items the first time the item was purchased.  So why are we being taxed twice for the same items? Am I not seeing something here?

so an item gets sold 5 times (over and over in time) by 5 different people who bought and resold it  the seller gets 1 payment while the government gets to collect 5 different times the money for tax ..what a racket  ..btw ebay and Paypal are the same company  and for yrs they both charged fees separately when you sold a item on eBay
