Why does EBay always suggest a Rediculas Low Price whenI list ?

I've been sellin 8yrs now. *Why does Ebay constantly suggest on all my listings, me to sell at a Stupid/Insane Low price ?  Then I see "The Gage" showing--"Chance of Selling LOW" !   DUUUUHH

I'm Shore glad I wasn't born Completely stupid !!   Then , it states "Simular Items selling for...$2.60 etc."

That's Bull !  I used to check the simular items...& rarely are they even close.     **Example~~Today I revised a Vintage 5 pc - 1/2" dr Williams Tools set, with the Vintage "Script" on all pcs, For $65.

They say items like mine "SOLD" for $2.60-$7.00 !!       *WHAT ??!!  A total lie. NOT just misleading.

(Seems like this is on border of illegal ?)  1st-- There were NO 5pc Williams sets sold like mine !  And NOT for $2.60 !  2 Lies.       Can't see what's the purpose of this ? Doesn't EBay get rich--by US sellin at High prices ?   Before I list, I invest my time searching for "Like" items being listed, and invest time looking at Sold listings.  I think I have a better knowledge than EBay on my items !!   Again, don't make sence.    Also I have to look at a Discouraging gage that says "Chance of Selling--Low" And the gage visually shows Down at about Empty !  Again --Why ?  I know us experianced sellers- just ignore it..But what about New Sellers ?    They must learn/lose the hard way ?  Now EBay is tryin a new policy--"New Easy Pricing" !  They will discount our selling items every 10 days....for us !?  Why must EBay keep interfearing with our listings/sales..etc ?  There's other items--I don't get, but can't list all.  Anyone got Any Input ?   Amazon & other selling places are starting to look better...etc.                gscflash

Sorry . . . I thought this thread was going to be about the Harry Potter Boggart-Banishing Spell.

EBay wants to create a public perception that buyers will find an amazing number of items listed at bargain prices when they visit and shop on ebay rather than elsewhere.

EBay is very old in internet years.

1995 was last century after all.

There is a bunch of antiquated advice that has not been updated in this century.

That suggestion is pretty obviously one left over from the days when most listings were auctions, Stores were not in Search, and payments were made with money orders.

I stopped even looking at those when I concluded that not only could eBay rarely show me any identical items, but it couldn't tell when my listing had Free Shipping while another seller had $20-$50 shipping fees.

Because it's not their money and they could care less if the seller breaks even or loses money with their ridiculous suggestions of pricing. Maybe when a buyer clicks on a listing they should suggest to the buyer that they offer $15 more than the asking price so that it would be worth the seller listing it here.unamused

Ebay has no skin in the game and it costs them nothing to encourage bargain basement pricing for high end goods.

The real question is:

Since you have obviously realized that the suggestion is worthless why do you keep looking at it and then waste time kvetching about it?

Ignore it and make better use of your time.

All it is is a guide.

Maybe you list a snap on socket set, and it's missing half the sockets. Ebay doesn't know that.
Or maybe you are listing two sets of sockets, again eBay doesn't know that.

Or maybe your listing a limited edition gold plated wrench, eBay doesn't know that either.

There are way too many metrics and varations to make that suggestion anywhere near accurate.

Re: Why does EBay always suggest a Rediculas Low Price whenI list ?

I know. I have stuff on here that is listed for sometimes two times the price on Amazon and everywhere else and I get the suggestions that are way off marks and not comparable to what they are stating I am competing with. One of the dew things the website has very little control over is the cost of the merchandise for the seller vs what that seller can sell it for and still be within their profit margain range to make selling her even worth it. That would apply to most sellers here, even the larger sellers who are not going to be running their business on a puny profit margain. At times it is wise to lower the prices significantly if you need to liquidate inventory that is not moving and that is appropriate.

Again..these suggestions run of an algorithm, way too many data points needed to make it accurate.

Listing a video game console? Can it count how many games are with it? Probably not. What about 3 extra controllers? Again, probably not.

You are listing a desktop computer, you added extra memory and a bigger hard drive. Doubt it knows that.

Listing a book hand signed by the [popular]  author? Doubt it knows that.

What if your listing a rare silver dollar, does it have a data point for the value for every condition from poor to mint state? Doubt it.

The program would need military grade AI for it to work.

Agreed! Does it differentiate between a perfect item with no flaws and one that sold with cracks and chips? My experience!
