They just say "economy shipping" or "standard shipping".
As a buyer I want to know HOW it's being shipped.
FedEx? UPS? Parcel select? First class? Priority?
As a buyer i've actually skipped listings that don't show me this information.
Am I the only one?

I incorporate shipping into my price and list just about everything "free shipping" and as "economy" shipping because the price differences can vary greatly depending on how far away I am shipping to. And since I never know how far away any buyer may be located, this is by far the best method to manage my shipping costs and increase my net profit. If a buyer has an issue with this, well that is the buyer's issue and not mine.

@mrsbmcv77 wrote:My listings apparently say standard shipping even though I specify only USPS options for shipping choices. I have no idea why eBay does this. It's strange since I assume you will be in the actual purchase before you find out how it is coming.
There is a link next to the standard shipping that says "see details" it does list the shipping options if you click it.
That's just how eBay works. You have to click on the 'see details' to see what method they are going to use. I wish they wouldn't do this b/c the terms "standard" & "expedited" are eBay terms that encompass many things & don't really mean anything.
As a seller, I just select which methods I'm going to use (I usually have a choice for the buyer), but they have to click into the Shipping Details, to see it. I don't put it in my listing.
As a buyer, I rarely care. All 3 main services deliver here daily. I have no problems with any of them, so the only resason I care is if I want to grab the pkg asap, when it arrives.

I hate it when I purchase something that says Fed X but it is actually Fed X for part of the trip and then it is turned over to the USPS. This always add two or more days to the delivery. The Tracking is not accurate as it will show out for delivery but not really. It is out for delivery to the USPS and not you.
If I knew this is the shipping that would have been used then I would not have ordered.
This is the 'last mile' service that the PO offers to Fedex & UPS. I know lots of people hate the service b/c of the add'l delay. But IDK how/if the seller could know that the carrier was going to use that last mile service? I didn't think there was a way to know.

It's bad when you pay top dollar for Priority shipping and then, like you said, the seller waits a week to ship it. Basically, it completely defeats the purpose of Priority Mail. When I see Economy or Standard shipping in a listing, I just assume it's USPS, but really don't care one way or the other.

I thought it was a special service that they purchase for a lessor fee. Normal ground FedX or UPS is max 5 business days but with the pass off to USPS it is 7 or more business days.

I have never used ANYTHING other than "Standard" in all my years (23) on eBay.
I have NEVER had a single buyer EVER ask me what the specific service will be.
When I'm selling true high value items I still use "standard" but will include the specifics within the description (ie: Priority with Signature Required).
Why? Because with "standard" eBay provides a longer delivery estimate AND I get to pick and choose which service is the most appropriate (and most profitable for ME).
An example would be using Media Mail instead of First Class, if I'm shipping 14oz to a close zone MM will only be at most 1 day slower than First Class.....$2 extra in my pocket!

Doesn't it say 'See Details' right next to the 'Standard Shipping' (which you can also scroll down and click the 'Shipping Tab', but the 'See Details' is blue underlined to click on;
I think it then says '1st Class' in () next to the 'Standard Shipping'?

Of course, before buying the customer can ask , including his postal code or country of residence, what service the seller will actually be using.
Some sellers use Economy just for the longer delivery window, since delivery has become more erratic than the Before Times.

May I ask why not? Quite often it is the cheapest shipping, especially for large or heavy packages.
Some times Priority can be, say, $40 and parcel select only $25. It still gets there either way.

Practically everything I have ships USPS FCP. I use flat rate economy shipping to give me a 10-14 day delivery window, whereas FCP give a 3-5 day delivery window. 98% of the time FCP gets to where it's going in three or four days. That two percent of the time it doesn't I don't have to worry about packages "arriving late".

It is a special service that the carrier uses & def pays a fee for, but what I'm saying is that I don't think there's any way for a seller to know if the carrier they choose is going to use that service or not. In the beginning it was mainly for rural or far out addresses, I think it's expanded since then. But they intricacies of how UPS & Fedex choose to use that service is not something the typical seller would be privy to. At least I don't *think* they would.

I'm not Richard, but I personally would not use it either. It's slow & often buyers don't realize how slow some services can be. I think like MM, it's also low in priority. But the main reason I have never used it, is that the few times it's made sense for me, the difference is between a nickel & 15 cents. Maybe it's just been my pkgs weren't suited to it, but I've never seen it be over $1 difference, so given the other issues, there was just no reason to. I rarely sell very heavy items though, so perhaps it still makes a difference there. I tend to use RR's for my heavier items.

Or are you looking at the shipping tab also and still
can't see it?
Yes I do click on the "shipping" tab.

With 150+ million active buyers, I doubt you are the only one.
I'm sure there are buyers who have had a bad experience with USP, Fedex, or the USPS and want to avoid those services. And I'm sure there are post office box holders who do not want to give a street address after they purchase when they would rather not have packages left on a porch or next to a mailbox.
And on the flip side, I'm sure there are some sellers who want the flexibility to use whatever service makes the most sense at the time they are mailing.

For the same reasons that @simply-the-best-for-you said.
UPS and FedEx are about the same price with much faster delivery times. Getting it there is not the issue. Getting it there QUICKLY is the issue.
