Why are you even here?

In a previous post a member (who was misunderstanding other people’s replies and got defensive) felt that and accused the people who spend a lot of time on here replying to posts to either comment or help were actually part of a larger organized conspiracy to try and defraud him and other members. I guess a sort of “ebay Illuminati”.

That member said there is no other reason why anyone would want to reply to so many posts and “help” and not get anything out of it. Totally paranoid if you ask me.

So I thought, why not just ask everyone. So let’s hear it. Why are you here, and why do you come here to reply to other people’s posts? What do you get out of it?

Wonderful. Just the man Diogenes was looking for.

I'm here mostly for the mental exercise. I  really do believe I have to use my mind to keep it fit, and the forums provide opportunities to reseach and to solve puzzles and problems.  (My favorite board is Collectibels & Art, because of the variety of questions.)   I never know from day to day what will crop up on one of the boards, and that adds to the mental stimulation.

Very interesting answer. I like it. I remember when my dad retired awhile back... I’ve always suspected he had some sort of learning disability but was never diagnosed but that’s beside the point. After retirement he didn’t do much. Basically stared at the tv, and started gardening. I witnessed his mental capacity plummet fast. I believe it had to do just as much with brain (a muscle) atrophy as much as his age. I decided to let him come work for me and help out where he can to try and keep his brain sharp and focused. Many things he can’t do, like read an invoice... but I adjust in a way that he helps me pick and package items. My office is his man cave now as he sometimes chooses to come in on weekends just to tidy up or organize inventory shelves.

So I worry about when it’s time for me to retire. I’m afraid of my brain atrophying. Which is why I believe I will never give up cold turkey selling online. If anything, 1-2 days a week (and reading these boards of course) to keep my brain sharp.

@bigdeals.etc   I retired and wasn't that fond of it, so I'm selling part-time here and several other sites and working on a research project.  Retirement is what you make of it - as my dad once said "Retirement means finding a job you like" - that can be volunteer work or paid work or education or whatever. So yeah, I wasn't a fan of the cold turkey thing, either.  I started working as a short order-cook when I was 15 and honestly, it's weird not to work at something,  or volunteer or in other ways stay engaged and contributing.

It's good to help your dad, though I'm a big believer in gardening being extremely good for the soul.

Hell is empty. And all the devils are here.

@chapeau-noir  Oh he still gardens. Even a little too much if you ask me. What used to be a patio is now a jungle with vines and thorns everywhere lol. But I don’t think that’s enough for his mind since it’s more of a relaxing activity.

I only reply to issues I think I *might* have a resolution to...

Or to voice my opinion about eBay's crazy polices because I feel like, if no one speaks up, nothing changes...

That's why I'm here, generally...

I also like reading other people's answers, posts, whatever, to see what's going on here..

That's me, and why I'm here 🙂

Yeah, I'm not here all the time either... but if anyone ever has a question for me, they can ask and I'll be glad to answer..

I know some things I may say may seem non-conventional? maybe? But I just ask about and talk about things that I feel should be fair and equal for everyone...

I just don't like one sided "fairness" issues, which is my biggest complaint/topic of convo on here 🙂   Which may put me in a certain light, but I'm actually a really nice person, that may not always come off that way because tone isn't always received the way it's typed 🙂

If anyone ever wants to message me directly, I'm always open to direct, civil conversation. 🙂

I do it because I have been around so long that I've seen a lot of changes. So when people freak out about the new changes, I feel that YES I can help them. Also, I learn a lot here. Reading and staying informed.

idk, don't know any of your posts off hand...but I don't think so in a forum where hundreds of people post on daily basis to anything under the sun (ebay wise) where would constitute non-conventional to other stuff. The thing is that, and I believe someone already mentioned this, no matter how long been selling on ebay you never really know everything as ebay is constantly changing things, policy, site, etc... so in general it's good to have various people post on a thread to help the OP cause I've been wrong at times on things I could had sworn I was right but turned out I wasn't - lessons learned.

The great truth is there isn't one
And it only gets worse since that conclusion...
...There is something about the rigid posture of a proper, authentic blind

Obviously, you are here to bring a bit of culture to these boards 🙂

I come here for lots of reasons the first being to try and help others from what I have experienced over the years. Secondly, despite how long I have been using eBay I still learn a lot from this forum. On occasion some of the postings are actually funny.

I'm here to bring a bit of bored to this culture. That is, when I'm at the desktop, I'm not busy with other stuff, so I'm looking for something to do, and I can generally find a question that needs answering, so I do.

I still pick and choose, generally favoring new topics that haven't already had 20-30 replies, since answering a topic that's already been beat to death by dozens of others is simply making the rubble bounce. Someone who's just posted a problem will benefit the most from a quick answer that can resolve it. Navel-gazing discussions that have gone on for a while may or may not get my attention, depending on what the topic is.
