In a previous post a member (who was misunderstanding other people’s replies and got defensive) felt that and accused the people who spend a lot of time on here replying to posts to either comment or help were actually part of a larger organized conspiracy to try and defraud him and other members. I guess a sort of “ebay Illuminati”.
That member said there is no other reason why anyone would want to reply to so many posts and “help” and not get anything out of it. Totally paranoid if you ask me.
So I thought, why not just ask everyone. So let’s hear it. Why are you here, and why do you come here to reply to other people’s posts? What do you get out of it?

I come here to keep up with what is actually going on with eBay and to keep from ever having to call into eBay for help.
If I have a question, here is my 1st and only stop.
I don't mind helping other sellers and find that somewhat rewarding. All around, there is a decent crew of regulars with a lot of experience.
It is like a continuing eBay education.
Some of the posts never cease to amaze me with what people blame eBay for. I have to wonder how some sellers manage to dress themselves each day. So there is the entertainment aspect.

So "their constant presence on the community" is a negative feature, rather than a positive one?
that's not even close to what i said, just your interpretation of it. I said there is a lot of good those people are doing despite their "constant presence" - referring those who have complained about such people always being on the community posting. And yes, despite them being present all the time and some people not recognizing the time and effort they put in, there is a shortage of such people. Not a negative, that was a positive statement.

I don't know why, but this concept makes me chuckle. Out loud. 😃 (back when we were PS, I used to receive in the mail e-bay certificates that said you were a PS!, coffee mugs, magnets, e-bay Pins, a book bag....really important valuable stuff! LMAO). If you get something groovy for posting here, please share pix. 🙃
We've been selling on here since 2004. It is often reassuring to come to the boards and realize you are not the only one dealing with whatever it is.
You would think if you sell here a long time, you would know a lot. But you really don't - so many changes and twists and turns. Being an online seller can be a struggle - especially if you have no one to bounce ideas off of or who even remotely understands why something is the way it is on this site. DH is clueless and he likes it that way.
Almost every day on here, I learn something new. Or re-learn something, that I forgot. Or someone shares an idea, and you have an AHA moment....and think why didn't I ever think to do that?
When I am tired of listing items and I am packing and shipping, I usually hop on the boards to see how many "I am outta here, e-bay sux" posts there are today. Not everyone who posts wants help - many just want to vent and that's cool. Sometimes between the ranting and raving, little nuggets of helpful advice shows up in the sea of bat sheet crazy.
Grateful for those who readily share - makes doing this thankless job a little easier.

Like many other posters…to learn and keep up to date with changes.
Case in point…MP. I knew it was coming but understanding all the
Policy and proceedures was difficult for me. I spent a great deal of time on the payments board reading everything I could and asking questions, back then there was a “payments team” that would
respond to the thread and backup or correct another posters comment.
The call came in December, I signed up and everything worked out fine.
The new group(s) of enrolees don’t seem to have access to that payments team, it has been left to fellow sellers (most with MP experience) to answer their questions. Unfortunately those same sellers that helped me are now being called “shills/cheerleader” etc.
Ebay need to be more proactive on these boards...I know...and can only wish 😅

I was hired by the Sri Lankan government to monitor this site and help out Sri Lankens. 😉

I come here every day to seek information about the latest eBay bugs, unannounced changes, and unannounced betas. There is nowhere else on the site where this type of information is available in a timely manner.
I rarely answer questions because I am a casual/small/whatever-the latest-term-is seller who uses few of the features eBay offers (e.g. no store, no GSP, avoids the SH, etc).

Very interesting answer. I like it. I remember when my dad retired awhile back... I’ve always suspected he had some sort of learning disability but was never diagnosed but that’s beside the point. After retirement he didn’t do much. Basically stared at the tv, and started gardening. I witnessed his mental capacity plummet fast. I believe it had to do just as much with brain (a muscle) atrophy as much as his age. I decided to let him come work for me and help out where he can to try and keep his brain sharp and focused. Many things he can’t do, like read an invoice... but I adjust in a way that he helps me pick and package items. My office is his man cave now as he sometimes chooses to come in on weekends just to tidy up or organize inventory shelves.
So I worry about when it’s time for me to retire. I’m afraid of my brain atrophying. Which is why I believe I will never give up cold turkey selling online. If anything, 1-2 days a week (and reading these boards of course) to keep my brain sharp.

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning before I even get out of bed is something to exercise my brain. I grab my iPad and do a crossword or some other type of puzzle. I don't have to finish it, but I make myself do that for about 10 min before I get up and get moving.
