I sell needlework charts. They are easily photocopied. Accepting returns would dissolve my business. I'm guessing that others who sell paper-based products feel the same. My 10% discount has now been revoked. After 18 years, thanks EBAY!

You have been on ebay for 1 year, long enough to know -Of course you accept returns.
Buyer files SNAD, you refund or ebay does it for you.

You do accept returns and have to pay to get the item back. It is called a SNAD claim. Your other option is to let the buyer keep the merchandise for free.

I've been on eBay under multiple IDs since 1997 and have a "no returns" policy as well. I've had several situations in the past that a refund was warranted. I've also had several situations in the past where it wasn't and I took a negative over refunding. All that changed with the newest SNAD. eBay's site = eBay's rules so you have to gage at what point you're no longer willing to play the game ... OR set standards for yourself that help reduce (not eliminate) the chances of things going wrong. I list less items, I list items for less, I detail descriptions, I over-provide information. You know the saying ... the best defense is a good offense.
However, I can do all of that, but if someone is bound and determined to commit fraud or legions of buyers experience "remorse," I only have control over what I have control over. Do you have a reason to believe your buyers have gone rogue?
Raise your prices to cover what eBay is no longer kicking back and be done with it.

How many returns do you get in your retail store?
How have returns on eBay compared?
I sell in media another type of item that is easily copied, never had a single instance of it actually happening on eBay and I have been here for 19 years with the last 6 offering free 30 day returns.

You may not like to hear this, but the kind of customers you catered to make a difference whether they will copy the design and return the item for full refund,or watch a movie, read a book, wear the gown or tuxedo for the evening/
Some will borrow your designer handbag to go with the rent a designer gown for the evening.
Ebay wants everyone to come and play, wants everyone to have the bragging rights they get it for nothing on Ebay.

I am lucky in what I sell. I usually have 0 returns on my things because if word gets around that you are jerking around a seller you might end up not being able to buy your shiny item anywhere. Yes, you can copy my media, though it is a little harder than ripping a dvd or vhs. That being said, people that buy my stuff are usually really awesome.

In the retail world, sales are final for all paper products.
The scenerio for Ebay? Buy a chart, take a copy, return the chart, get a refund. Could happen, and probably will, if returns of paper products are allowed.

Just in passing, why are your laserdiscs $7,95 for delivery to the USA and $109 for delivery to Canada?
The shipping cost seems a little unusual.
I agree with your basic premise.
My customers (philatelists, seamstresses, and readers) are happy to read and follow instructions. My complaints are well under the 1% of sales that is considered normal in business, never mind online commerce.

You have had to accept returns to qualify for the US TRS plus discount for quite a while now. Since you are in Canada and you are trs on .ca, I'm sure that your discount is based on the global trs requirements, not the US trs plus requirements. Did ebay tell you that you were losing the discount or are you assuming that you will because of the updates?

Returns are not required to sell here, and they never have been.
However, a buyer has 30 days with Ebay, 180 days with Paypal and potentially 180+ days with their credit card to get their money back.
If someone wants to get their money back, they will - whether you take returns or not.

That might be a glitch. Ebay messed with a bunch of my shipping rates a while and some are still messed up. Shipping should be free in the us and may be 20 to Canada.
