Where to source Product........errrrr

One of the questions we used to get most often on this board was where do you find product to sell?.....and we consider ourselves somewhat attuned to the odd items that are saleable from local stores........ (not many stores in the local community)  We bought a number of Aerogardens from Walmart for $10 at the end of the season, a number of Dryel cleaner for $1 each, Newsweek Hillary Clinton elected President magazines that sold $70-$150, etc........

But sometimes things bite you......well in an embarrassing place......

Better Half drinks alot of unsweetened ice tea...we always have a pitcher of it in the refrig. In early spring of 2018, I think, we just couldn't find any  Unsweetened Nestea.....until we finally ran into it at a local equivalent of Scratch & Dent/overstock groc store. We bought about 12 jars at $2.79 each just because we were tired of chasing it.  Could have bought more.

So fast forward to yesterday, as we opened the last jar......  and Better Half idly  put it in ebay search .......  Here are the solds (on the same item):

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_armrs=1&_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=nestea+unsweetened&_fsrp=1&rt=nc&LH...

lol

Anyone else with a similar experience?

I glanced at you listings. You have some nice items !! For me personally the items I sell I have collected for many years and still do to this day !! So I own my inventory. If you are selling strictly out of season inventory or last chance sale items and you have no or not enough stores around you auction houses often carry such inventory !! And auction houses buy the same things you do at times from Stores !! I have seen huge amounts of store inventory being sold at times. Everything !! Good Luck

The food category is funny like that - I’ve seen this type of thing posted a few times. A couple years ago people were making a killing on some cereal -Frosted Flakes or something ? - that wasn’t sold outside the US.

Only on EBay, LOL.

Do you have Big Lots stores in your area? I ask because I've discovered that they sometimes have things like that in the food line.  Like the company tried out a new product and it did not sell well at all so they dumped all of their inventory at Big Lots and stores like it.

That is bonkers! Our Publix always has a shelf of discount stuff up near the last checkout counter, I'm assuming it's discontinued or out-of-season stuff. I plan on giving it a closer look now...

That is hilarious! You could have made a killing!

It just goes to show what people will pay if they're not willing to shop around. That product can be found online at "normal" prices. (Full disclosure: there are food items I would definitely pay a king's ransom for. Dot's Pretzels, for example.)

Dots pretzels seem to be everywhere online?

Perhaps you misread my post: I said I would pay a king's ransom for Dot's Pretzels, not that I do pay a king's ransom for Dot's Pretzels.

They are available in virtually every grocery store in my town, so I don't have to buy them online or pay a fortune for them. But I would.

Buy some. You will not be sorry. You'll want to be buried with a sack of them under each arm.

be careful. It is normal with things like this that one day it's sky high and the next day it won't sell for $2.

I have a friend that drinks that, and hasn't been able to find it. She actually called the company, and they said it was discontinued.  She has been looking locally, and said if she finds some she will buy it all, doesn't matter if there are 50 cases, she will get anything she can cause once it's gone, it is gone!

OUCH!

Hindsight hurts.  So sorry you saw those solds!

Check out any out of the ordinary flavor food stuffs, like pancakes and syrup peeps, or limited edition flavors.  Oreo is a good example.  You can't always find these things and people will pay more to be able to get them.  Likewise limited edition cereal flavors.
