Where are the customers? WHY aren't we getting any sales lately?

Been on ebay for 18 yrs.  top rated seller with 100% approval ratings. Over the course of that time, I've grown and added many new product lines & put thousands of dollars in new items online here this year alone.

This year it seems is the year that ebay has died, for in spite of discounts, and sales, I am now lucky if I get 100 dollars in sales in a week!  (used to be 3-5x that much)  I have 1400+ current active listings on ebay and not a single sale in 2 days now?  WTH is going on here?   I do price searches for similar items.  Our prices are competitive, nearly always lower than others.  I share several product posts daily on facebook, instagram ect. (free advertising)  Still nothing.   Some say its the new algorithms, but how do we counter or fix that if this is the problem?  (you'd THINK ebay would be more on top of this issue)   I'm not going to be able to hang on here if things don't perk up.   😢 Open to suggestions.

I agree with farmalljr. I’ve been on eBay for 25 years. Last year was our best year ever. Supply chain shortage and the fact that we started promoting all of our 5600 listing. We could barely keep up with shipping. Recently, our daily sales are about half. It started late last year and hasn’t rebounded. We continued to pay the promotion fee for half of this year but sales continued to slow. We stopped the old promotion program and things got worse. The new promotion program is based on clicks, not sales. Not sure what’s going on. Has anyone tried to but their listings/products on other platforms?

Re: Where are the customers? WHY aren't we getting any sales lately?

Morning,

I feel your pain. My store is down 72% as of this morning. I too, invested in inventory this year. Something has got to change. Many sellers are experiencing the same drop in sales. I haven't had a $100 day since July 8th. I've been selling on eBay for 10 years and this is the worst it's ever been.  There needs to be answers. The sales drop is not all summer slowdowns, bidenomics and the economy, although they all play a part.

Frustrated,

JNS Vintage Radios and Tubes.

I know what you mean but 15% + Ebay´s 12.9% = Close shop.

That's why the restaurants are full, music venues are packed , national parks at full capacity and the outdoor shopping mall I was at on Sunday was full up. Went to a rodeo 2 weeks ago and have never seen it that packed,. Quit blaming the economy. That isn't a problem.

In my case I see it when things get tough ebay has to help.

Ebay raised the fees to 12.9% from 10%, also if you want people to see your items, I am a 10% and nothingt sells. From over $150,000 in 2022 to $5000 this year. Terrible. I agree with a lot of you but I blame ebay not doing anything at all. It looks like they dont care about losing there sellers. With that attitude, it down hill to death. Sad

I am assuming the percentages you are referencing relate to promoted listings. Those are self inflicted choices a seller makes and not something eBay sets. Some of the down turn is beyond eBay's control but tend to agree there are things eBay could be doing to assist the sellers but eBay's only concern is to maximize their value to their shareholders.

Re: Where are the customers? WHY aren't we getting any sales lately?

There are a few factors as to why sales are slow. IT IS NOT THE ECONONY-- Concerts are selling out at very high ticket prices, beach parking is full, national parks are in gridlock, restaurants are packed, malls are packed, roads are packed 7 days a week. People are traveling at an all time high: Europe is seeing record travel numbers....    During the pandemic a ton of new people entered the reselling picture and has made it much harder to find product that has resulted in much higher prices now and has driven the sell price down. Who the hell sales a mug for $7.00 including shipping when it cost $8 plus to just ship one. Furthermore, the younger generation hates EBAY. Ebay will never grow without appealing to them. The search function sucks for the buyer, some sellers are charging $15 to ship a t-shirt(**bleep**).  Ebay will NEVER pull the younger generation into selling on its platform because shipping a product is way to complicated especially with the endless item specs and updates that go awry.  Not to mention the fees are way to high and even with a 10% promoted fee the view count is still ZERO.  Mercari and Marketplace have there own issues but shipping is 1000 times easier. And YES it does make a huge difference.  I have spoke to many younger folks  and they have all said no way on selling on Ebay.

Ebay is stuck in the past. It needs a huge over hall if it wants to stay relevant.     But with the current leadership that is not going to happen.

Re: Where are the customers? WHY aren't we getting any sales lately?

Amazon is worse as far as competition and when I tried selling on that site, THEY held MY money until the customer got the item and indicated they were OK with the purchase.  Well hell, some people never bother.  Meanwhile I was out the merchandise, out the shipping and out the fees waiting to get paid... sometimes for months!  (don't know if that's changed in the last 10 yrs but I could not get off that platform fast enough)  Tried 8 other sites as well and there was zero traffic.  Ecrater is an example of that.  I was lucky to get one sale a month there with hundreds of competitively priced items listed.  That site is clunky and awkward to use as well.   Been on ebay almost 19 yrs now and seen a lot of changes.  Slow sales during the pandemic I could understand, but why are they so bad NOW?

Re: Where are the customers? WHY aren't we getting any sales lately?

No, they have higher prices because they often pay rent, + utilities like heat & electric, liability insurance ect.  Store prices are quite often HIGHER because of that than on online sites.

I generally find the opposite to be true plus there is the speed obtainment factor that no online site can compete with although Amazon does come close at times. However, this also depends on whether you live in a large metropolitan area and have close easy access to a B&M store or if you are in a rural area where access to B&M stores may be limited.
