When seller has item in a auction why don't they give the seller the option to refuse the final bid

Why when you have a item to sell that goes into auction, they don't give the seller a option to refuse the final bid when the bids are way to low???

@crshe-5710

As a new user, you're going to find yourself off ebay if you refuse to follow through on sales that aren't high enough for your liking.

I assume it's the 1996 RETIRED VERY RARE CURLY THE BEANIE BABY BEAR, WITH MANY TAG ERRORS. that sold for $22.50 that you refused to sell? Then you relisted at $2500?!?!?

Very few buyers are going to spend thousands of dollars on Beanie babies and Teletubbies from a seller with a brand new account, no history and no feedback!

Especially when the item is only worth $5 or $10.

Have a great day.

Hi @crshe-5710

Because that's not the way auctions work.

The seller gets to choose the Starting Bid ... which should be the lowest price the seller is willing to accept for the item ... so the seller should be happy with whatever amount the auction ends with.

There's no reason why the bids should ever be 'way too low' when the seller decides the opening bid.

Or was it the 14 K YELLOW GOLD 3 ROUND DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT, PAST PRESENT FUTURE OR ANNIV. RING that sold for $235.49 that you then relisted at $1500/2000 BIN?

@crshe-5710 Your ebay time is going to be over before it started!

(I wonder why those buyers didn't leave appropriate feedback.)

Because it's not a game.  It's a contractual situation.  By opening the bidding at "X," you are stating that you will enter into a contractual obligation to sell the item for that amount if that is the only bid received.

So start the bidding at the minimum you will accept.

Or, alternatively, you can use a reserve.  But be aware of two things:  Buyers hate reserves and are inclined to nibble and sport bid just to reveal them, if they don't just ignore the auctions.  eBay charges you a substantial fee to use a reserve and pay that fee even if the item does not sell.

In case you are unaware of the implications of not following thru with a sale:

Seller-initiated transaction cancellations can come with steep penalties. On eBay, cancelling a transaction without a buyer’s request to do so, is considered a very serious offense. It can earn you a defect that goes onto your account, and can downgrade your standing.

Below is a link to more info. Reading up on the policies governing the site can prevent mistakes that may negatively impact your selling privileges. Good luck.

Auction it is a Auction. Highest bid wins not the bid you want to win. Otherwise sell at a fixed price.

You do.. "Reserve Price" or "Buy It Now"... Auction is an auction with all its risks, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.. eBay is not to blame in this case.

Put yourself in the buyers shoes. How would you like when you bid on something and you got it at a great deal, then the seller cancelled your bid and relisted it. Wouldn't you be a little upset that you were going to get that item at a GREAT price but the seller didn't like what it amounted to so cancelled it and relisted it to a price you now not willing to spend?

Your time here won't be long if you continue to do this. As it shouldn't.

Start the auction at what you're willing to sell it for and anything else above it is a Hooray moment. If you start it thinking its going to be bid up, without looking at sold histories of the item you're auctioning....thats on you.

So the OP's questions was not a hypothetical one?  OP cancelled an auction that did not end well (per OP's standards) and re-listed for a very high amount?

The *dings* for this are usually quite a lot for a new seller to take.

Why not just list it FP to begin with?  (my bubblegum list is getting so long.....)

Well.     What is that saying?        Future consequences are inevitably shaped by present actions.......

They don't, and BIN is not a reserve on an auction

eBay is changing the opening bid for the auctions and lowering it way down!!! I'm not going to put anything in auctions anymore because of that!!!!
