While this situation is rare it has happened on several occasions and again this week ... a previously SOLD item is Relisted by eBay and sells. Obviously there is no Cancellation choice that covers this. Just curious if others have dealt with this an how?
What I find inetersting is my account underwent some changes this week by eBay, some new page formats, new Drafts format, etc. So it would not surprise me that somehow they queued up an old listing (or more!?!) and put it up live when they clicked the "update" account for my ID.
I've messaged the Buyer explaining eBay's mistake and am waiting for a reply whereby they accept a replacement item I have offered or ask that I cancel the order ... that's being about as honest as I can be at this phase but feel I am back peddling because of an eBay glitch ... and not real happy about it.

Looks like you did the best you can. The ball is in there court now. Its very embarrassing when that happens to us. Its hard taking the wrap for something you have no control over. Best regards

@lewisburggold Thanks ... on one earlier this year I was short on time (Handling time to avoid the shipping ding) so I actually sent two similar items instead of the original single item with a note expalining things PLUS letting them know I would gladly pay return shipping if they don't want what I sent. ... never heard anything from the Buyer, never got FB on the sale (which is just FINE with me!) ...

Weve had to pull that move also more than once. One did get real mad but, after explaining and of course offering a full refund and of course letting them keep what we did send it was all smiles. Best regards

Yeah, I'm working on 3 in the last month.
Two I sourced again on ebay and still made profit but I'd rather not have to do more work .

@monster-deals, @lewisburggold
I think I posted about this whole topic once before and I was surprised at the number of Sellers who had this happen to them. Obviously Sellers don't want to alienate or anger a Buyer but eBay created the situation yet we are left with the potential fallout. I sincerely appreciate the well wishing on my transaction, hopefully it will turn out well. We're not talking a high dollar item but that's not the point ... a paying Buyer is a paying Buyer.
I guess the upside is if the Buyer accepts the replacement offer then it remains as a sale for something I have opposed to a cancelled sale on something I don't have any more.

I wonder how many of these so-called accidental relists are in fact completely the seller's fault.
You do know it gives sellers the opportunity TO relist after the sale, right?
Granted a seller has to click the link, but it is quite possible.

You want my honest opinion? I doubt many if any at all are as you imply ... the other one I mentioned was about 3 months after the original sale ... my Sold file is set for Current Month, no way I "accidently" went back that far (actually you can only go 60 days on the old My eBay which is what was being used). The one this week I can not even find on my sold spreadsheet this year ... that's almost 10 months. So when my Sold file rolls over on any given month the older sales are never touched ...
Nice thought but I don't think it applies. This most recent one comes on the heels of eBay updating my account with new page formats (you know the space wasting ones?!?) ... Last week I was locked out of making 10 old Drafts go live, Drafts are supposed to be kept for 20 days ... then earlier this week BOOM, "We're improving your experience with the new Draft page format!" Yeh, right! I am not computer expert but I think they put accounts on different servers before they update them with changes ... like when everyone was slowly put in to Seller Hub, not everybody went in at once, they did groups. So I really am convinced its an eBay glitch ...

I've had ebay automatically relist an item which never sold. Somehow, they checked the box for automatic relists.

@moms**art**window** Thanks for that post ... that would be great if eBay would admit to a programming error but I suspect that would be a time consuming task and with the weekend looming I plan to get this worked out one way or another this weekend.

if you could get eBay to acknowledge the error in writing,so you could forward to buyer or a general acknowledgement in a thread like this even better at least when the likely event they leave a neg you could refer a csr to the thread and get an easy ok on removal .is there an exact date the relist happened? i'd like to check mine.
good luck with this if you find out anything let us know
Pffft. You can hardly get ebay to admit that the free shipping on mobile glitch exisits after almost 10 years.

@moms**art**window** Good to know ... for the one this week the thing that tipped me off almost immediately is it was an older price and possibly as far back as last year's ...
