.....if say, most or close to all sellers on this platform on a certain day and forward stopped promoting their listings ? Simply refused to use promotions......would views come to a halt ? Would the site be severely impacted ? Would the programming that controls the views and promotions greed game burst into flames ?
Would it get eBay's attention ? It certainly wouldn't be punishable......we as a majority just decided not to play the game anymore, right ? After all, it is still a voluntary choice to promote, could they handle it if we all happened to make a different choice at the same time ?
I guess it would be like a mutiny, with eBay walking the plank.......would they just walk off, or would they realize their greed and stop charging us for views ? The whole concept of paying for views (therefore a chance to sell) is utterly ridiculous.....views should flow freely and just be how the system works, like on every other platform.
Many sellers have come into this forum and stated that they are on other platforms now, or have shifted the majority of their business to other platforms because of this nonsense. I myself am killing it on Whatnot these days, doing live stream auctions and selling my wares for their worth in 30 second intervals like my own QVC.....and it's FUN. Remember when eBay was fun, and not a drag to TRY to sell something on ?!
That being said, those of us selling elsewhere because of this carp could certainly afford to make a stand against it and see what happens. It's probably thousands of sellers at this point that are selling on other platforms too.
Food for thought ? Wanna make national, if not global news ?!

No one cares. Everyone does there own thing.

That will never happen. No need to speculate on the outcome.

Seems you've had it with eBay yourself, Alco.......
Those listings are hilarious !

If nobody paid for promoted listings there would be no listings to promote so everyone would get equal exposure and ebay would eventually do away with the program.
But as others have said, that will never happen, so it's kind of a waste of time discussing it.

With some 25 million sellers worldwide*, organizing this would be a little tricky.
What would happen? As a thought exercise, some sellers would see more visibility, because they were not using PL. Some would see no difference whether they were using PL or not. And some who use PL would see a drop in Views and possibly in sales.
OTOH, anyone who could organize that would be headhunted by every political party, NGO, and fundraising charity offering huge enticements to hire on their skills for the organization.
* Which also means that any organizing would have to be done in at least English, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil is a huge market), Punjabi, Hindi, Chinese (both common versions), Korean, Japanese, and whatever that is they speak in Australia.

I had the same thought, inhawaii.......if no one played the game, the game would go away. Free flowing exposure like it used to be. Like it should be.
I bet Alco doesn't have those listings promoted.....what do you think ?
I'm done trying to sell here after my few current listings play out......I may put up about 30 listings of nonsense like Alco's on my way out. That would be awesome if everyone that quits selling did that to fill eBay up with carp listings......PBIAB.

As I often remind my fellow participants on Reddit, this forum is a teensy, tiny, little speck of fluff in a dusty, forgotten corner of a ramshackle school house just on the edge of an abandoned gold mine town.
No one would notice. And no one would care. Somewhere a mid level manager in some mid level office in an otherwise unidentifiable building laughs at the idea:
"Emperor Palpatine: Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. Your friends, up there on the sanctuary moon, are walking into a trap, as is your Rebel fleet. It was I who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator. It is quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of my best troops awaits them. [mockingly] Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive."

Maybe just severely impacting the U.S. portion would be enough......

Not sure, we had and still have sellers reports about Ooak listings and literally the one of one item X, which are still being hidden and can't be found unless the seller is willing to pay ebay more to promote and gain visibilty on that very ooak specific item.
If you won't hand Ebay more $$$ for PL on top of the fees you already pay, you will not seen, that's it.
the PL scheme was very short sighted, it made ebay as expensive as the rest and the venues and in some cases even more expensive.

Right, the point is that our items are what is sold on eBay......if nothing is seen, nothing is sold, there is nothing on eBay to sell. It would be their own greed game haunting them.
Want to make it seem to us like we have a choice to promote or not ? Thanks for that, we choose to not promote, therefore nothing for sale on eBay. Now what ?!
IT WOULD BE EPIC !!!

Doubt enough Sellers would participate or agree to, to even be more than a ripple in the ocean.
E-Bay's greed grab on the PLs and now to entice a Seller to pay more fees for instant pay to their debit cards, speaks volumes.
Just disheartening and predictable.
Long live the fees. (Plah)

I don't think it would make any difference at all. There's zero need to promote listings in the first place unless you're selling either readily-available commodities that can be purchased from multiple places besides just eBay or selling in oversaturated categories like used clothing or jewelry.

Doesn't everyone know that this site's greed has done them in and they're sinking fast ?
Sellers and buyers are still leaving the site in droves, each quarterly report is worse than the last, the stock is going down, and the powers that be are still working on making the site prettier rather than work on the problems that are causing the site to tank.
The platform is getting more and more difficult to work, it's 18%-25% fees to just have a chance to sell something here......I swear these days it seems like some kind of social experiment to see how bad it can get and how much people can be manipulated before they let go.
I'm having a hard time believing that anyone can defend this platform and still believe in it as it takes it's last dying breath.......and it obviously wants to die, they are doing their best to make it happen.
Am I in a bad movie where everyone else is a bot ?! That would explain EVERYTHING.
