Last week I listed several items. The listings went up, OK, but I didn't receive the usual email confirmations from eBay ("Your eBay listing is confirmed...") for any of the seven listings that I put up. There are two of us at our business who deal with online sales and I did receive the email for the one item that my colleague listed but none of mine.
This morning, while gathering up the overnight sales and going through the emails I found, amongst the others, notification that one item had sold but, according to Orders Awaiting Payment, hadn't been paid for. As we progressed through packing and printing shipping labels I received an PayPal email notification of Payment Received and assumed that it was the one awaiting payment. Only after some confusion did it turn out to be something completely different. But there was no email from eBay that "Your eBay Item Sold!"
So, what's up eBay? I don't spend all day hitting F5 on browser tabs for Items Awaiting Payment and Items Awaiting Shipment. I depend on email notifications to confirm that an item is listed and then when it sells and gets paid for so that we can get it shipped out asap. We sell through other online venues other than eBay and email notifications are our primary source of information about what's going on. Besides which the only messages that come through eBay's message system are those from customers or the "Top Tips for Selling" or "Receive 30% off your selling fees" advertising junk. No problem getting those...
I've checked our communication settings, thinking they might have somehow gotten changed but "Item Sold" and "Listing Confirmed" are set for Real Time. So why are we only getting them so inconsistantly (and unreliably)?

Is there any reason you can't check your Ebay dashboard and Paypal account for this information? I have never once used email as an indication of a sale or payment. Emails can be delayed, or never received at all.

Personally, I would not depend on emails, too many fake ones going around....plus when ebay/the internet experience the type of traffic in the last wk or so, all emails are probably going to be over whelmed and/or slowed down.

There are dozens - if not hundreds - of moving parts between eBay's email outbox and your email inbox. Many of those are entirely outside the control of either you or eBay.

Is it really that hard? Doesn't eBay make enough money off us sellers to insure that their algorithyms are in order? This isn't USPS innundated with holiday traffic and I don't expect they have a sweatshop in Malaysia manned by hundreds of poorly paid workers hitting "Enter" every time a sale is made either. Ebay has been at this long enough to make sure their communications are up to scratch.

It does seem odd that when a batch of listings ends with no sale, the notices come right away, yet lately it can take a day or more for sale notices to be mailed out? I mean the no sales are much more numerous than the sales. So what is their major malfunction here?

It has been reported recently that there have been issues with receiving these emails from Ebay, timely or at all.
Sorry you experienced this, it is very frustrating.

So this means one of two things... either a. eBay's system is the only one that has dozens or hundreds of more moving parts than any/ everybody else's system, or b. eBay's is the only one that just doesn't work. I'll take "Both A and B" for $500, Trebek...

Well, I check my PP in the morning, and at night.
If I got money, then I act.
email often glitches up.

I don't rely on emails at all. In fact, I have my rules in Outlook to automatically send those emails from ebay directly to my recycle bin.
I have 2 monitors. One is displaying my Seller Hub, while the other is on the discussion boards. I see my Notifications and can check my Orders any time I wish.

They must have fixed something, just got several emails about items that sold on Monday and Tuesday (it's Wednesday). Most have already shipped at this point.....
