I saw a Youtube video yesterday about Ebay possibly rolling out a new feature which would be amazing - we would now be able to send out a reduced price offer directly to all people who are watching out items. Well, I looked at my email this morning and saw a message from Ebay titled "Drop the price and make the sale" where they list several of your items with watchers and say that if you lower the price by at least 5%, they will then send a message to the watchers that the price has been lowered. Is this exactly what the Youtube video was talking about or have watchers always been automatically sent messages indicating the item they are watching has been reduced?

The email is a "version" of what you saw.
I think what you saw has been defined here as a "test"........i.e. a seller can send an offer directly to watchers on an item. The test is limited to those who are not in seller hub....
The email is an invitation to do so to the seller......saying ebay will send the message to the watchers......... and may be a response to some of us griping that we (in seller hub) couldn't be in the test........

The email I got, said I have buyers with stuff in their cart, and to lower it 5% and they will send a message. They didn't mention what items tho.
I don't think this will work well. Only if you're deseperate for a quick sale. People will start putting stuff in their cart, and wait for sellers to get deseperate. So sales WILL suffer once buyers ( like me) start abusing this feature.

I actually went in and lowered the price on one of the items, but I never saw a message from Ebay saying they were sending a message to all watchers. If Ebay did send a message to the watchers, is is seen as a direct offer(i.e. how when a potential buyer asks a question and you can respond with a direct lowered price offer) or is it just seen as an alert that the price was lowered on something they were watching? The video was saying that it this new feature would be seen as a direct offer to buy at a lowered price, not just an alert, and it didn't require you to go in and lower the listed price

Don't confuse two separate eBay "ideas".
1) Items in the cart, drop the price. You receive an email about items that buyers have placed in their carts and then not completed the purchase. The email typically includes items that have already sold and, at least for me, most of the rest sells within 24-48 hours with NO price drop.
2) Send an Offer to Watchers: An email is received offering to Send an OFFER to watchers on a particular item or items. The items are not in the buyers shopping cart, just on the watch list. This is a NEW TEST and is apparently limited to non-store sellers.

It isn't limited to non store
I am getting both the in cart & watchlist emails on this store account

Ok so I guess I have only received the message pertaining to the #1 idea you mentioned. So does Ebay give you a verification tha they actually sent a message to the potential buyer about the lowered price? Once again, is this something Ebay has always done with item in someone's cart? I didn 't even know buyer could put items in a virtual cart.

I recently got one of those messages; the message showed several items that folks supposedly had on watch list. Top item on their dispayed list was something that had sold a few days prior!

If anyone sends the seller an Ebay message, seller can include an offer on their first response.
