What's the oldest active listing you currently have on your account?

How in the world 🌍 would I find the oldest listing with 3900+ listings?

I don't know because I end/sell similar all listings every 30 days or so.  But if I had to guess it would be this brooch, listed at least 6 months, maybe longer.

I don't know why it hasn't sold; it's an exceptional piece by a popular brand, of which considerably 'lesser' pieces regularly sell for more $.

I refuse to go any lower than this, frankly because of the 'sunk cost fallacy.'  -I paid almost this much JUST FOR ONE OF THE MARQUIS FOIL STONES in it, so I'll be danged if I take a LOSS on it.  And it always fetches lots of views and watchers with each refresh, just a matter of time before somebody bites.  I may need to take better photos or change the title, I dunno.

Hard to tell because we moved across the country in 2014, and I brought about a thousand books with me then relisted them when we arrived.
And since I have moved hundreds of listings from dotCA to dotCOM when we were no longer allowed to list in USD on the Canadian site.
And more last fall when Canada Post closed down for a month with a labour dispute.

But within the past six months I have sold a book whose listing slip noted it originally went into stock in 2008.

@gurlcat

As a corollary to Murphy's Law, now that you have mentioned it on the Boards, it will sell within a week.

I've noticed this when I go to put a newly listed book into the eBay case, that the title I stare at, wondering where I got that one, will sell soon after.

Oooooo! That's a beauty! I wouldn't go any lower on the price either if it were mine.  I have a Lisner grand parure set that's been with me for a good nine months that I haven't fiddled with the price much for some of the same reasons.  These beauties are just waiting for the right home. If anything, you might want to add vintage and/or MCM into the title somewhere.  A lot of buyers start their searches with 'vintage brooch' or 'vintage necklace'.

On a positive note, I've noticed a lot more of the big, bold, pretty "vintage-style" brooches showing up at shops like Anthropologie, which is great news for those of us with the real thing in our inventories. The little tinsel-y Alex & Annie stuff seems to be dropping off the radar at the moment.

ETA:  Gurlcat, have you considered raising your prices a bit?  Say 20-25%?  I just did this recently with a couple of categories and one of the ones that worked with was vintage jewelry.  Four of the six items that sold were from lots that I picked up last summer.

12/19/19 Dale Earnhardt Jr. lighter. I haven't bothered to relist it because it's still getting views and I mostly just forget about it. 🤣

I had to give my shipper a list of everything on eBay (back when there was China tariff issues and they wanted proof the stuff I had listed wasn't from China, I had taken the China listings down). This "list" was an eBay printout of my inventory with country of origin added and a letter from my supplier to confirm the list as correct (even though it was nothing more than a list of inventory).

On the list was the date the item was listed, and the oldest was 2019. There's probably 30-40 listings from 2019. Maybe 100 listings from 2020-2021. Out of 11K in listings.

I have so many listings I make changes in batch, and don't single out single listings to figure out why they don't sell. I've had stuff sell that's been listed for 5 years, just have to wait for someone who wants the item to come along, I sell collectibles.

Usually when I pull stuff it's something like the German Banknotes, auction what I have, if it doesn't sell cheap I return it to the brick and mortar store to let them dispose of it. Then all the German Banknotes come down at the same time. Do that with various genres of items and things don't last for more than a few years here. But with tokens we're always adding some (and world coins and banknotes too), some sell, some don't, and some end up here a long time.

I've had the price all up and down with that thing.  Here's my guess (only a guess) about why it isn't budging -so yeah the colors are crazy and last I checked foil domed cabs were also pretty popular .... but what is truly unique about this piece is the SIZE of those cabs.  Picture the size that is normally the 'largest' navette/marquis used in jewelry.  It's 7 x 15 mm.  But this brooch's are 12 x 24 mm, like big as fingernails, and I've never seen any so large .... ever ... and I've seen an absurd amount of jewelry, oy.

So I tried to highlight that in the description and with hand/coin comparisons in the photos, but I don't think I really succeeded in getting the point across.  So I wonder if it would be helpful to include a photo like one of these, showing the comparison to 7 x 15's.  And I would caption that in the photo.  What do you think, should I do it at all, and if so which one of these do you think illustrates it better?

I like the second one best but they're both good pics for showing the size difference.  I would probably use both. If you have calipers, you could also show the actual size of the navettes with it.  It really is an outstanding piece.  I don't know what your light situation (I have sun one day, then back to cave light the next) is right now but you might want to retake the main pic on a pure white, brightly lit surface to show off the colors. Like this...

I know they're not very exciting as backgrounds go, but the bright background really focuses the viewer's attention on the subject.

I was just looking at your other listings.  You have a lot of really lovely things.  Your prices could definitely come up quite a bit.  You can always run a sale or send out offers if you feel uncomfortable asking for more, but I would raise the Lisner thermoset brooch to at least 34.99, the czech green peking pendant/necklace to 39.99, and the green dome cabochon brooch to 29.99 to start with.  The last one would be a lovely accessory for an Easter brunch.

I seriously think your things may start  getting more traffic if you up all of your prices to let your potential buyers know that you know how good your inventory is. If I'm wrong, run a 20-30% sale (with the higher prices)  and see what happens.

October of last year. Still there because it's worth asking price and getting views and watchers. I have only seven active listings. I don't list items that have little chance of selling.
