What makes up the difference between ebays search results for sold items and terapeaks?

In some cases I've had terapeaks sold items show much less than ebays search bar. for example "Apt 9 2x top" will show only 100 solds with the "90 days" and "used" filters applied on terapeak. But when searched on ebays search bar with preowned applied and the default 90 days filter it shows 179 items have sold and I counted them out and it's surely 179 listings. So what is making up the large difference in numbers? I've heard items sold from other countries won't show on terapeak but that can't be the case for almost half of the actual sold listings not showing up on terapeak

I don't think terapeak automatically updates every time there is an Ebay sell so never count on those numbers to be correct. Also Terapeak is actually very misleading so be careful. Typically, items show "higher" selling cost then you would ever get on Ebay. They are showing averages of items sold "everywhere" on the net.

Terapeak only shows sold items that were paid for, so if an item doesn't show up in Terapeak, it means that the buyer didn't pay for it.

Terapeak shows the actual selling price, and the actual shipping cost that the buyer paid, so if the item was sold to an offer, the price shown on Terapeak is correct (and the price in the eBay sold search is incorrect).

Terapeak only shows items that were sold on eBay and paid for, not items sold on other websites.

Would that mean 79 listing were not paid for out of 179, that seems like a high number but could be correct. Another example I search time tru on ebay search there is 3300 sold and on terapeak it states 4013, how could terapeaks be so much higher in this situation?

To be fair, terapeak defaults to hide excessive/extreme sale prices when it brings up its initial findings.  So those are largely filtered out unless you decide to include them in.

When you are searching, which eBay site are you searching? The default is ebay.com so you only see listing made on .com.

You can also search "all sites" (at the bottom of the dropdown), that will include any listings that were visible on .com regardless of which site they were listed on.

The regular eBay search using the sold filter works in the same way. This is why you may see more listings in an eBay search vs terapeak. If you use all sites on terapeak there is a good chance you will see MORE listings there than what you see in a regular sold search.

I thought that I might have changed the filter long ago, and saved the filters then. But I looked for it and couldn't find any way to filter out extreme sale prices.

@slippinjimmy, thanks for pointing out the "all sites" choice in the eBay site drop-down. I hadn't noticed that before.

I really don't understand what Terapeak is or what value it adds. I do my own research. I don't need to pay more $$ for a monthly fee for data that may be manipulated that I can do myself.

The eBay sold-items search is completely unreliable.

• Yes, it may include sold items that were not paid for and therefore cancelled.
• Also, if an item was sold to an offer, it shows the original asking price, not the price that it was actually sold for. So the sold price is not correct.
• If a seller ends a listing early, it will not show up in completed/sold search because only items that ended "organically" are included.
• If a seller uses the out-of-stock option, then the listing stays active (but unsearchable) when the quantity goes to zero, for up to 180 days. So it won't show up in completed/sold items searches during that time. If it is never restocked, then it will end after 180 days and will show up then and artificially increase the number of items that "apparently" sold/ended in the last 90 days. However, many sellers will end a zero-quantity listing early, if they aren't going to get any more, in which case it will never show up in sold/ended.

Terapeak shows you the actual number of sold items, the actual selling price and shipping cost paid by the buyers, which is not available by other searches. You can search for custom dates up to 2 full years of sold results. You can filter the results by listing format, what site they were listed on, where the buyers were located, and other options.

Terapeak is free for accounts that are registered as sellers. I believe you can sign up for extra features, but I have never done that. The free features are useful and reliable.

eBay sold-items search are completely unreliable, both for number of items and for the sale price. See my previous post.

@lotzofuniquegoodies if your asking me... my take is both sold items and terrapeak are junk, but especially terrapeak. Now for other sellers, it may the cream on top but for what I sell, it's junk. Don't need terrapeak any ways, been doing this for 25+ years I know what the stuff cost wholesale and what they go for retail and 3rd market so terra i don't even look at that junk anymore. Sold items now and then I will but many times it's the same as terra, no results, or they will have results for the unlimited version...which means no results for my limited versions. But as to them falling off radar, i believe they do after x amount of time... don't know what that time length is, if I used it more I'd be more up on stuff like that. I usually disregard past item sales anyways... market changes, what something sold for before doesn't mean that's what it's going for now, could be more, could be less... I instead search for items currently for sale, here, and discogs and take an average of those and set a price with taking into account what I paid for something and what it will cost in fees/shipping. That works best for me, but like said other sellers the terra and sold items maybe more useful depending what they are selling.

I've had zippo for success finding relevant (factual) info using Terrapeak. (Very important to test various word combos to find matches.a) might bring up a few...b) might bring up nothing. c) something entirely different.) Using eBay for research used to be acceptable but as of late more and more info is being hidden it's difficult to believe the accuracy. It's similar to search coming up with unrelated items and associated ads that aren't even in the neighbourhood of what I am trying to track down.

I still find it as just more labor and questionable information. I do my own research and include my knowledge, research of the product, condition, & history to start a price. 

When I go to list an item, I get the eBay notice suggesting a starting price based on recent sold similar item / history price which is lowball & nowhere close to my item & the condition it is in.
