First time seller. What the hell is this? This person supposedly won the item I was trying to sell. What do I do?

Scammers target new seller and people selling "high value" items. This is classic "gift card" scam. Never communicate with anyone "off EBAY". You should add this person to you "block list" immediately.

Very common scam, on ebay and elsewhere.

SCAM
and they never intend to pay, just send you fake PayPal email stating they paid and to ship
Do not correspond anymore with scammer and also report buyer
Just let the sale go for non payment and after (5 days?) eBay will refund FVF (except the .30 transaction fee)
Also be sur to put this scammer on you're BBL

They are a scammer.
Cease texting with them.
Keep any communication via eBay messaging system.
Don't expect payment.
Cancel for non-payment afrere 4 full days.

Anyone texting you or asking for gift cards to be added is a scammer, guaranteed!
After 4 days, cancel the sale with reason buyer did not pay. Then relist the item and set it for immediate payment required.

The non payment is automated now and a seller cannot do this
I think eBay automatically does this in 5 days

You are good and smart! Scam, now who buys a $300 gift card for a church member????
Those hairy dudes in that scam Cafe are slipping with their details!

@elizbin9469 Message them on ebay ( not texting) that you don't offer gift cards. Ask them if they would like to cancel their order. As already mentioned, the transaction will cancel after 4 days of nonpayment. I would report this buyer for trying to get something not included in the listing. Add them to your Blocked Buyer List.
Scammers target new sellers. You're smart enough to question this, so you're off to a good start. You can always come back here for good advice. Best of Luck!

Well you purchased a gift card and of course sent a photo or said card with the back scratched off:
AND: YOU OUT DA MONEY.
That is the SCAM.

Scam ScAm SCAM! Scammers target new sellers with high prices items. That’s the old “gift card scam”. Only communicate through eBay. You should add this buyer to your blocked buyer list so he doesn’t mess with you again.

NO! That's not accurate information!
The default setting for the new unpaid item cancellation procedure is MANUAL. A seller has to go in and cancel manually after four full days. If a seller chooses, the process can be set to automatic by the seller, but its default position is manual cancellation, and a seller can continue with manual cancellation forever if s/he wants to.
Please, please, please read up on how the new unpaid item cancellation process works for yourself. There is so much misinformation being posted on these boards every single day that you can be sure you have the correct information only by reading up on it yourself.

It's a revamp of the classic Russian wedding scam. Popular over twenty years ago. So named as back then it was for a wedding gift in Russia. They sent fake money orders back then. Today they send a fake you have been paid notice.
Waiting for the black money / wash wash scam to return.
