What is the status of the Ebay roll out with Facebook Marketplace?

Hello!

Does anyone know the status of the eBay partnership roll out with Facebook Marketplace?

While I did not opt-out of the program, the facts of it seemed fuzzy, including which eBay listings would be shown on Facebook Marketplace (and how this might be communicated to a seller), in its announcement in January. Also, I have not received any messages with particularly new information from eBay.

I deleted my Facebook account long ago so I do not have visibility of its platform.

What's the latest on this relationship from the eBay-seller perspective?

Is anyone getting listed on Facebook Marketplace? If so, what has the experience been like?

Thanks!

Have you been invited?

No, I have not been invited. Is that the first step?

Have you been invited? If so, how is it working out for you?

No, me either.  Ebay has 18 million active sellers worldwide and somewhere around 6-7 million active sellers in the USA.  So this would be a VERY slow roll out.

My guess it will be a long time before this becomes a common thing for Ebay sellers.

They are starting with certain categories, which I don't sell in.

Thanks for your response. I have seen the link you were kind enough to share. I would say the categories are vague at best.

Since I do not have a lot of listings, it might be easier for me to simply create an account and post some listings on Facebook Marketplace independently.

@mam98031  @dexter_sinister_ii  just for clarity, participation in eBay's Facebook Marketplace Partnership program is not by invitation.

eBay simply decides which listings to send over to Facebook through their integration with the Marketplace Partnership program and that decision is based on a variety of factors like current shopping trends and listing quality.

There is no application, no invitation, and really nothing sellers can do to influence whether or not their eBay items will appear on Facebook Marketplace through this program - except, obviously, not opt out and beyond that, just try to create high quality listings for in demand items.

Here's the latest info about the program from eBay in their April Seller Update:  https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/news/2025-april/facebook-marketplace

And if you want to see what these listings look like once they are live on Facebook - there are screenshots in this thread:

@valueaddedresource @dexter_sinister_ii @mam98031

@valueaddedresource  is correct, ebay does not inform you ... you could have listings on FBMP right now, and ebay would not tell you. To add to that: I have repeatedly asked ebay whether sellers will be informed if a SALE has been made through FBMP. Ebay has never provided me with an answer. My best guess is, at this point at least, the answer is "no".

As @valueaddedresourse says there does not appear to be anything an individual seller can do to get ebay to put their listings on FBMP, or to even find out whether FBMP was responsible for a sale they made. Create good listings, try to list "in demand" items (whatever they might be...FBMP could be very different from ebay demand because of different buyer bases.

Of course, if you get a FB account, you can list items directly to FBMP, or you can post links to your ebay listings on your FB page. But that is an entirely different approach.

Re: What is the status of the Ebay roll out with Facebook Marketplace?

I couldn't decide whether to ask this here or in that link, but I'll go with 'here' just because it's a newer thread, and my question is not specifically related to the 'AI item description' topic.

Has there been any indication that we'll receive any kind of notice about listings being shown over there?  I think I've been observing a slight uptick in my External Views recently, but of course that doesn't tell me what listings or whether they came from Google, Facebook, or Timbucktoo.  Considering there does appear to be some 'beta' phase cruddiness going on with the FBMP integration, it would sure be nice if we could at least SEE how our listings look over there.

Or if providing us a heads up while the listings are live is too much to ask, then what about a notation on the Orders page, of items that were sold via FBMP?

-I noticed in one reply you said you weren't sure how seller protections could apply as fully as they do for items sold here at "home."  Well yeah, darn tootin!  If a buyer negged me or did a chargeback because my vintage earrings didn't come with racing decals "like the description said" ..... how would I even fight that?  Like how could I even KNOW that it was because of a glitch between eBay and Facebook, when I didn't even know those earrings were listed there, never mind use that knowledge and cite the glitch to redeem my seller protection?!

Re: What is the status of the Ebay roll out with Facebook Marketplace?

@gurlcat  to my knowledge, there is currently no way through either sales reports or order details to determine if an order came from the Facebook Marketplace integration and as @my-cottage-books-and-antiques pointed out, there's also no way to even know if/when some/all of your items are shown there or exactly what was shown to the buyer as far as the description/item details displayed on Facebook at any given time.

It's all still a black box at this point, which is something sellers should consider when deciding whether to opt out.

-Which requires phoning CS, being told it will take days or weeks, and then it doesn't actually happen.  🤣

@gurlcat

Very interesting point, especially in light of the reports that eBay replaces your "description" with an AI one for the purposes of this program.  So it appears you don't get to know if your item was selected for participation, and unless you find it by chance (are they searchable ?) you don't get to know if your pearl earrings were said to have "racing decals" (LOL) or not.  They will likely be a "compliment to any outfit, great for any occasion, and a must have for your collection".

These items are directed to eBay for payment, and the REAL description is supposedly displayed should anyone care to read another one.  eBay rules and fees apply.  I have substantial presence on M.Place and buy/sell groups. It is of my own doing, and I pay no fees except for merchant services to collect the money.
