What is going on with the categories?

I am spending way more time that I want to trying to list books that eBay has decided are in some weird non-book category.

Also tried to list some stockings for crafts and got a message

"The item cannot be listed or modified. The title and/or description may contain improper words, or the listing or seller may be in violation of eBay policy."

Got this same message with a book too.

Who is in charge over there that can straighten this out?

What is going on with the categories?

Well, the tech over at Auctiva figured the problem out.  I used the word "ivory" to describe a color in the description and that is a trigger for eBay.  I substituted another word and it posted.  Thanks for everyone's help.

Nobody.  All run by computer bots.

If the end of one word plus the beginning of the next word equates to a bad or disallowed word, then it would be rejected.

What is one of the titles you are trying to enter?

Getting this again today with a completely different listing.  This is driving me nuts.  I have NEVER had problems like this until the last few days.  The title is "lot of 4 vintage or antique Asian hand held fans paper & silk" listed in category 165463.  I can't list it because of the message below.

The item cannot be listed or modified. The title and/or description may contain improper words, or the listing or seller may be in violation of eBay policy.

Take out the word "or" and try again.

Tried taking out the "or" - got same message.  I called eBay; he didn't know and referred me to tech support, which I will do later on when I have time.  Annoying to say the least.

Try this, it might work (or not):

Vintage hand held Asian fans paper & silk Lot of 4

OR

Antique hand held Asian fans paper & silk Lot of 4

It's either vintage or it's antique. If it's 100 years old or older, it's antique. Anything else is vintage. If the fans are over 100 years old, use antique. If you don't know, use vintage.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Glad you got it solved

This is a good opportunity to point out that posters shouldn't expect any useful help if they do not post all of the (or in some cases any) relevant info. Had you posted all the info, it would have been figured out here days ago.

In this case, the error message indicated a problem in the title or description, but although the tile was posted, the description was not. The "trigger word" ivory in the description would have likely been spotted in 30 seconds by many.

(mostly directed at the "I can't list anything. What is wrong?" posts that include zero information. Smiley Tongue
