so I had a problem a few months ago that I wasn't able to have promoted listing views, after a month of calling and talking with an eBay team here on the forum, they finally "fixed" it where I was able to get promoted listing views again. My store never really went back to where it was but we were making more sales then the month promoted listings were messed up so I decided to sell in other avenues and have eBay as just another channel. Well now(for the last month or so) the listing views keeps spiking at random times either back to back days or every other day. After a day or two the listing views falls off to a normal level but my organic listing views/impressions seems to be lowered the days when the spike occurs. I know they are trying to implement the PPC stuff but I haven't signed up for a PPC campaign, I just keep getting the listing view spikes.
Normally my external listing views are around 400 or so but they are spiking as high as 3k-4k, and are obviously false as I don't sell any more than usual. Is anyone else experiencing this or just my account because of the promoted listings crap that I had to go through a few months ago. All I want is to compete on a level playing field and have my account be just like everyone elses but I guess that's asking too much.

Mine too. Very high external listings and lower than normal promoted listings. My views have been way lower than normal for the past few days. Something is definitely off.

One possible explanation for spikes in external views is that one or more of your listings is being shared on social media by people who like the item....

you would think if I can get 4k views from that instead of just my usual 1k then I should see a spike in sales, nope I sell the same or about 20% less when the spike occurs especially in the beginning part of the day. Also the views vanish after a few days except today when 2 days ago spike is still there

Yes this is currently happening to us as well. So a couple weeks ago I noticed this on particular items with the same word in the title and once I took out the word “pin up girl” I got tons more views?! Also at that time of low views I did a search for my item and it wouldn’t show up! However the same thing is happening this week now on all kinds of random stuff I have posted and I have no idea what’s going on now!! Frustrating but also seems as though items relisted are worse. There’s definitely something going on because there’s no way some of my items have like 0-4 views whereas others have like hundreds! I tried calling and with no help.

@texas_online_thrift1 @webuywesell out of curiosity - did you either list a lot of new items or have a a lot of listings renew on those days?
I've typically seen spikes like that in external views when items end/relist or are newly listed - my guess has always been it's related to those new listings being sent to Google and other search engines.
I'm not at all doubting there are strange things going on right now with views/impressions in general, just wanted to throw that out as one possible reason. If those spikes don't correspond with new or relisted items, at least you can rule that out.

nope, I list about 30-40 a day and this keeps happening every other day or so. It's been happening for at least a month or longer. It just happened again yesterday and today instead of 600 listing views I might be lucky to get 400 and it's the 1st and a Friday which should mean better sales, at least it does most months

I never had much faith in that and therefore, never look at it.
Are views like Google, where it's there on page 1 but the 90'th item, and therefore not up on the page where a buyer scrolls enough to see it?
Or is a 'view' on page 34 where the buyer doesn't see it, but it 'could've been viewed and wound up on a page due to the 'description' a buyer inputted?
Or, are they on the 1st page and buyer scrolls past it, but 'views', I don't think, mean actually 'clicking on it to view the item.

I have seen this same exact reply I don’t know how many times……….. *face palm* Please stop with the automated responses, random eBay rep. It’s pretty unbecoming.

I agree, and also would like to know why an eBay rep can't pop in [even when tagged] to other threads that IMHO have a hell of lot more serious issues going on than this one - no offence to the OP, or anyone with this issue, I just find it amusing on eBay's part
