I sold a used Men's Polo Ralph Lauren Harrington Bomber Jacket and Ebay sent me a message stating that the listing was removed (already sold) due to a VERO violation. It was what I said it was and it was used. How is this a violation.

VeRO in this case is ebay's VeRO, it is not external to ebay, it is ebay's own in house protection program, and because of this ebay basically gets to do what it wants.
Note that the actual DMCA law, which ebay's VeRO is loosely based on, only applies to copyright violations. Authenticity and trademark abuse are not covered by the DMCA for web site removal under the law. It's eBay's own policy that extends the DMCA like behavior to this. The downside is that as a result you don't get the DMCA mandated remedies for people who abuse it.

I never thought it was possible to "trademark" names or words but a few months ago, I was Vero'ed by Fendi when I listed a Coach bag described as a baguette, meaning a small bag. (In fact, Oxford's dictionary only defines "baguette" as a long loaf of bread and as the cut shape of a diamond.)
I was allowed to relist the item, sans the offending word.

They're the ones that really stink. when some company co-opts a common term (like baguette) and then claims it as their own 'property'.
Like that low life who trademarked shabby chic when everyone had been using it for ages.

yeah, I've got a couple of items that have some name or word in the name, Like Tangled in them, just a generic term, until Disney came out with a movie by that name. My item is a horse statue called Tangled, that's all wrapped up in Christmas lights. Not related to the movie at all, and produced before the movie came out. I've got similar items like that too, also with names that have now been copyrighted. Now I can't seem to list those items anywhere, or if I do, no one can find them because I can't use the official name of the item due to conflicts (which don't really exist). Too much effort to fight each one.
