@moonmull Just respond kindly that this is against policy for this platform so you cannot accept a money order. Best of luck to you....
Ways to Pay:
Checks, money orders, and bank wire transfers aren't allowed for most eBay purchases. However, you can use these payment methods to buy vehicles, capital and business equipment, real estate, and items you pick up in person. See our Payment methods policy for more details.

And ask if he would prefer to cancel the transaction.
Money orders can be counterfeited. (Postal ones are the safest, but they also cost the buyer money, over $3 last time I got one, 20 years ago.)
They are also impossible for the sender to chargeback. If a bad seller got a MO and cashed it, the sender could not prove that they had paid.
MOs were banned by eBay at the turn of the millennium because of an email scam involving MO payment. Then they introduced Billpoint and eventually replaced that with Paypal, which were much safer for both buyer and seller.

If you are in Managed Payments, he doesn't need Paypal.
He can pay directly with his credit card, or with ApplePay or with GooglePay.
All of which indicates that he is working some scam.

Man, this brings back memories to the early days of eBay, when they used to send cash, or check, you waited for check to clear and then send item. Cash is now obsolete, checks, no one uses them.

Buyers also don't need PayPal for sellers who aren't in MP. They can also just pay with CC on the checkout page.

Truth be known, not everybody has a credit, or even debit, card. Some people still walk into a bank, and some pay by checks and/or pay in cash.
However, checks and money orders are still against policy - except for a very few categories.

I use to accept money orders all the time till I quit selling about 4 years ago. Never had a problem with money orders. Then since I started selling again about a year ago, no one has ever tried to pay with one.

So if they don't have a credit card (yes, I know people who do not have one) and doesn't have a smartphone can they still pay with ApplePay or GooglePay? Since I don't have a smartphone I know nothing about either of those payment options as far as actually using them to pay.

I know for Google Pay you don't need a smartphone, but you do need a credit or debit card to fund it. I pay for a couple of YouTube subscriptions that way. Apple Pay I have no idea.

yes they can. selling on a different market place a couple of years ago, i got burned by a $1300 bogus money order. it was a counterfeit--the bank processed it with no questions, only to have it bounce back a week or so later (after I had spent the money, of course). and i lost the item. for a variety of reasons, the op would be wise to cancel this transaction.

Just tell the buyer, yes you can pay with a M.O., the catch is he/she needs a Delorean time machine to do so... 😃

They can also pay by e check. All buyers have good feedback as that's all they can be given. Is it a high value item?

YEP! Those were the good old days, I remember getting payments by the boat load via snail mail, and regularly going to the bank to make the deposits. Truth be told, I never received even 1 bad check. I'm kinda missing those days, less scammers and NO sellers from China, wish I had a time machine.....
😃
