We all better have plan B and C in place, this place is not looking good and I've been around since 1998.

I'd be disappointed because I like buying and selling here.

eBay is not my primary source of income, but for a few hours a week it pays my internet hosting bills, my Netflix and Spotify bills, a bunch of regular purchases (pool filters, furnace filters, pool chemicals, etc.).

It also pays for an overseas vacation or two each year, and almost all of my record collecting and concert-going habits - which are not trivial.

It's still looking good for me. I've been here since 2000 and predictions of eBay's demise have been around ever since then. Most of the people who made those predictions are gone, but eBay is still here and keeps growing without them.

My guess is 60% or more folks selling do not have a job and rely on Ebay. They would feel pretty sad if it went under. They can keep complaining day in and day out, but they will not stop listing. Even those who come here saying they quit, very few actually do.

I'd feel sad. I would to sell on here for extra income but sadly what I make is just extra spending money. I enjoy listing items up for sale and packing them up for my buyers. It's actually a hobby. If I stop enjoying it then I'll stop selling.

I've been on here just as long. I had another account before this one. I agree things have changed and not for the good. I find it very sad and really miss the old eBay.

I know about the predictions that is why I said "what if" I understand that there are enough chinese sellers and giant companies who dump databases of 1mill+ products on eBay so I doubt they will go away but I do fantasize about how great it would be if it would finally die off.

Ebay will still be here when I'm dead and gone. What people don't like is the fact it's not the Ebay they remember of old. But times change and Ebay has to change too - otherwise they will end up failing like so many B&M stores and internet sites.

I wish gas was still 96 cents a gallon and I had my old health care from 1984 where an office visit with shots was $25 instead of $15 copays, $5000 deductibles and $1500 out of pocket - but it will never be that way again.

I would be really sad because I Have to cook more. My extra money lets me go out to dinner 1-2 x a week.

A little torn, ebay is a hard habit to break, so something akin to a nicotine patch to break that habit might be a good thing for some.

I read earlier today that there are around 1,000,000,000 listings on ebay at any given moment.

I have no idea if that's true or not.

I sell stamps (Currently) and have been a seller here for 18+ years. I'll stick it out till the end. I've too much time and effort to walk away.

There will always be an ebay of some sort. Smaller ? maybe. I've been reading the
"Demise of ebay" threads for 18 years.

Adapt or die.

EBay will certainly continue to exist but the majority of those 60% or more folks may possibly be unable to meet some future ebay criteria and no longer be permitted to sell on ebay.

EBay can in future decide to be very selective as to which sellers it will allow to offer merchandise for sale, to the detriment of those small ebay sellers.

What if...

Evening,

I have fond memories of the days of selling here also have fond memories of buying.

Personally I think ebay has all but "died" through several phases...actually 3 of them, yet some how when they were about to draw their last breath of what we once thought they were, they came back, although different.

I honestly thought 2 1/2 years ago they were done especially when the flood gates of Chinese sellers over ran the site, yet guess what...folks keep buying that stuff and ebay keeps grinning all the way to the bank.

Gotta hand it to them...but my only really connection here for the past couple of years has been the boards...and that has become precarious as well.

I think the change here on the boards is the saddest part.

Mr C
