What happens when you stop using a store?

I've had one for a while, but with the way number are dropping (and sales have dropped like the proverbial rock) ... and a lot of factors are forcing me to close up shop by the end of the year ....  keeping the "store" up makes very little sense.  The question is besides some FVF etc fees going up (probably less expensive to incur than my current store fee) what happens to existing listings when you drop a store?  I have less than 80 listings live currently, and that number won't be increasing  since only two to three pieces are selling per week and frankly there's no point.

I am in the same boat as you.  Deciding if I should eliminate my store & eventually, all of my listings.  Only try a few new ones here & there.  I dropped my total to 199 items for now.  2 sales this week.  2 last week & 1 the week before.  Going no where fast.  Less buyers; increased postal rates & slowness; a ridiculous % added to fees for slow mail.  Getting a sale is as rare as catching fish in a puddle.   lol    Good luck.  🙂

You aren't the only one considering dropping their store. I went ahead and renewed mine as it just came up, but I may drop it by end of year and pay the penalty. At this point it is not worth the monthly fees for such little traffic. Unless things change this year for me, I will only list occasionally a few items in 2023. Best of luck to you....

It is baseball season & I cannot even sell cases of 30 baseball team t-shirts for $1.00+ per shirt!  They want them for 0.25??

If you're considering cancelling a store it all depends on if you are month to month or on a contract and how close it is to being over. There are penalties for closing a store early in that scenario. I have 1200 plus listings and sales have become a trickle vs some sort of consistency.

The listings just keep renewing if you drop your store subscription.

Nothing happens save you lose the storefront and store URL.  If you signed up for a yearly subscription and cancel early, you'll have to still pay for the rest of the year.

But insofar as listings and sales go - no.  And if you decide to start back up again, you may be able to get your store name and settings back.  I used to close my store every late spring and re-up it in the fall and still had my store name and settings.  No big deal.

I think it depends on what you are selling and the rates at which your items sell.

Without a store i think you get 250 free listings a month, at least that is what it used to be.  If you have 250 or less normally listed you won't run into charges for listing over that.

If you have a certain normal turnover of 20% every month out oc 250 items you dont need a store if you will only add 50 new items a month to replace the 20% turnover you normally have, give or take a few.

If you have a larger store with lots more items listed it makes more sense to have a basic store that covers your listings and monthly renewals of listings.  Some included packaging supplies 4x a year can help a bit.

Come July I wont be renewing my store. I make in a month what I used to make in a day. So sad, ebay broke something and they can't fix it. Sales have been plummeting for the last few years and with no end in sight.

If your store subscription is at the annual discounted rate, then there is an "early termination fee" if you cancel before the final month. It's based on the number of months left in your subscription and it's about 1/3 of the remaining fee. You can see a chart in the store TOS:

As far as the original question: Nothing happens to your listingswhen you cancel your store, they stay live and fixed price listings will still roll over every month.

Thanks.  My annual is up at the end of this month, so cancellation as of 5/30 or 5/31 won't incur a fee.  I was half thinking of going to a six month, but it doesn't make sense to pay over $120 in fees for a $50 packing supply discount and the miniscule FVF savings. My items ship first class, so the doubled Priority insurance (that seems impossible to claim now by many reports anyway) doesn't apply.  I may lose some shipping discount too, but if I'm only shipping 6 to 10 items/month and said items are going for peanuts that's miniscule too.

Once upon a time it was worth it for the fee savings.  Now????

When you cancel or downgrade a store subscription, the change takes effect on the first day of the following calendar month, so you can cancel at any time during May without incurring any penalty.  .  Given how glitchy eBay can be, I would do it today.

The $100 insurance and 3% discount on Priority Mail rates are provided to Top Rated Sellers, whether or not they have a Store subscription.

It's all of 3% now?  Now there's an incentive to maintain TRS!  Gee we should all work hard for that status.

Not sure what you mean by what happens if you close your store. Nothing happens and with only 80 listings you definitely should close it.

The ONLY person who would want those shirts would be a reseller. Even that is a gamble as those shirts could take years to sell, low demand. Also you are selling them of $2 a shirt not $1.00.
