I believe I've read here that DSRs no longer mean anything. So if that's the case, why does eBay have them????
I just had a customer leave me GLOWING feedback for a magnificent butterfly ring and pair of butterfly earrings. Along with those I sent her a cute flower bracelet as a gift, that I was sure she would like. She won it on 5/25. 4 days later I sent her an Invoice (5/29). It was Memorial Day weekend so I wasn't concerned. She paid on 5/30 and I mailed it that day. She received it today, 6/2. I had 3 days handling but I shipped the day she paid because I had to go out anyway.
I ran a Detailed Seller Rating Report just now figuring it would be 5 stars. I usually don't have to run it more than once because 5 Stars is 5 stars. But it came up as 4.72 the first time. I couldn't believe my eyes so I ran it again and it came up as 4.78. I ran it a 3rd time and got 4.81. The ding is for Shipping & Handling. I'm disgusted.
What is going on????
Last time I ran a report, after I received another GLOWING feedback, I called eBay because I knew my regular customer would NEVER leave me less than 5 stars all the way around and it showed a ding on shipping and handling -- the same carp as today's, but that time I ran it 4 or 5 times until I got the message I had run too many and would have to wait to run it again another day, which is why I called eBay and the Rep told me to click my User ID, click Feedback and put my cursor next to the ratings. I did and they all were 5.0.
I do not want to call eBay about this if I don't have to. If someone like alan or trinton can look (on my selling ID) I would appreciate it but I don't want to alert them with the @ if they can't help.
If I find out this buyer dinged my shipping and handling I will put her on by Best Buddy List.
I do not want anyone to ding my stars for anything. I work too hard to have someone treat me unfairly.
I know, I know, this is petty especially since negs don't matter any more (never had one thank goodness!!!) and I might read that DSRs don't matter either but if she dinged my stars this time, who knows what she might do next time!!!
Thanks for any help.

ebay is just a very harsh enviroment for ABC&D personalities always has been and always will be. Nothing much to slip a gear over just how the place works....

We all feel what we feel. I realized when I read your post that it has been a very long time since I'd even looked at my DSRs so I checked to see if I was still at 4.9, and yep, I was. That means I've had several dings. Your ding isn't even registering on your feedback for anyone else to see since you say you are still at 5 stars.
I guess I just have different reasons for selling. I only do it for the money. Some may find that an unappealing thing to admit, but it is true. If a customer want to give me less than 5 stars for something like shipping/handling, then I understand. Lots of folks don't like the shipping costs--I don't either.
I don't think there is any rule saying you can't contact a buyer about this, but heaven forbid, I can't imagine doing so.

Just my opinion, but when the "stars" counted, less than perfec sort of counted against your seller rating. As an above poster stated, they were orginally not supposed to count for anything. When the "switch" was made, they counted in a retro active fashion for a year and were obviously punative in nature.
I do not recall if this was a "great news for sellers" or "great news for buyers" program.
Right now the main "ding" seems to be 'case closed without seller resolution'. Typically a seller has to succumb to the usual, and pay off they lying buyer, accept a return, pay for the postage, and be just joyous that the Pal took your money for that $1000 bracelet when your return package has just a rubber band.
Giving a buyer a refund via the Pal for an ebay sale, earns you one of these.
Thanks for the info. Boy oh boy. eBay really likes to slam their sellers. Not nice, IMO! Thank goodness I have no cases .... no negs ... I probably would stop selling. Well, not really but I would be very angry!

Thanks but I did read somewhere that eBay said we cannot contact our Buyers about the ratings. I think it might be on the feedback page but I'm not sure.
Yes, that ding is, for whatever reason, not showing up....but that doesn't mean tomorrow it won't show up.
Oh and ... I always reply to feedback I receive and thank my buyers for the wonderful 5 Star Rating. I can't do that with this buyer until I am positive she left me 5 stars.
So, you have had several dings lately? Or are they from almost a year ago and haven't rolled off yet?

I really don't know when I get them. I assume I've gotten them for years since I've been 4.9 on shipping/handling for as long as I remember the DSRs being around. So I guess some drop off and I have new ones to replace them. If ebay reverts back to counting them as defects, I'll look more often, but now they don't concern me at all.
I can't imagine making it a requirement for my buyers to give me all 5 stars or risk being blocked. I need customers too badly. I worry about you if you ever get a negative feedback.

Type ABC&D will move to free shipping and ship same day to avoid those low DSRs the low Es and high Fs will just tell them to go pound sand we'll get around to it sooner or later....

Thanks .... but at the risk of sounding like someone else (I definitely do not want that) I must say I do not need customers badly. I do not have to pay any bills from my sales. I need to feel good about what I do and that comes from the gratitude or 5 stars I receive for the good transactions/things I do for others. I have gone through "no good deed goes unpunished" in my RL for years and recently put a stop to that carp. I really was hoping not to see it here on eBay.
And as I mentioned, I think I would really fall off my chair if I ever got a neutral or a neg fb. There would be no reason to get either of those. I am extremely detailed to the fraction of an inch in my listings. I almost always use up the 12 photos - taking pictures of front, side, back - upside down, far away, close-up - you name it. I answer all of my messages. I give wonderful feedback to my buyers and to the people I buy from - all on my selling ID, too. I'm not afraid of retaliation on my Selling ID because of that.
Not so much here because I have expressed some political opinions and that can be dangerous, especially when done from a selling ID, IMO, which is why I post here from a posting ID.
I put a LOT of effort into each one of my listings.
And then I always give something extra - a little bracelet, an extra pair of earrings, a little locket.

LOL. At one time a very long time ago I listed some items with Free Shipping. I got a message from ebay that there may be a "conflict" if one of my buyers wins an auction that has shipping and also wins the one with free shipping. I didn't quite understand that for a while - and then realized that would absolutely NOT be in MY best interest. So no Free Shipping here. I always ship the following day, the same day if they pay early enough.

When I hover over my ratings it still shows 5.0. But I ran another report just now and got 4.81.
The "hover" is all that a buyer would see.
And most buyers don't look at DSRs
And most of those that do, don't know what they mean.
It's not personal , it's business.
Put her on your BBL if it makes you feel better.
You could also add a Response "Paid 5 May 17 Rec'd 7 May 17. Thanks USPS!" which would confuse everybody.

However, if it is possible for alan or trinton or heidi to look at my last 5 - 10 ratings, I would really like that. Does anyone think they might be able to do that for me?
No I don't believe they would. DSRs are left anonymous for a reason. Sure there are tedious and time-consuming ways to find out which buyer left you which rating, but overall they are supposed to be anonymous.
There are some people that don't leave 5 stars for anything. A 4 is considered an excellent rating in their eyes. I think you're stressing over nothing.
Buyers won't even see the ding unless you get several since your overall average is still at 5 which you confirmed when you hovered over the star.

@buyselljack2016 wrote:Well, the stars may not count for/against your account as far as eBay cares, but buyer's look at stars
I know a lot of buyers who don't even glance at stars. It's the FB comments that are looked at.
The majority of buyers don't bother to read the listing, I doubt they can figure out how to get to feedback and stars. And by that time they will have clicked one time too many and got bored and moved on.
Buyers don't look at any of the extraneous stuff ebay has to warn them about bad sellers - the buyers have the money back guarantee to protect them. The only buyers who do look are the ones that have been around forever and sellers who buy that had to deal with the punishments ebay used them for.

My s/h star is at 4.9 and has been for like, ever. Probably because my shipping is high...but unlike many sellers I don't mail books in envelopes, and booklets are sandwiched between heavy cardboard, wrapped in plastic and then mailed in either a poly or bubble mailer. Nothing stinks worse than getting a 100 year old booklet mailed unprotected in a manilla envelope that's been rained on, or a 70 year old book mailed in an envelope that's half torn open when you get it.

With as many glitches that happen every time that ebay tries to program something new - do you really want ebay dinking with the programming over something that isn't all that important in the operation of ebay and buyers perception of sellers?
