I believe I've read here that DSRs no longer mean anything. So if that's the case, why does eBay have them????
I just had a customer leave me GLOWING feedback for a magnificent butterfly ring and pair of butterfly earrings. Along with those I sent her a cute flower bracelet as a gift, that I was sure she would like. She won it on 5/25. 4 days later I sent her an Invoice (5/29). It was Memorial Day weekend so I wasn't concerned. She paid on 5/30 and I mailed it that day. She received it today, 6/2. I had 3 days handling but I shipped the day she paid because I had to go out anyway.
I ran a Detailed Seller Rating Report just now figuring it would be 5 stars. I usually don't have to run it more than once because 5 Stars is 5 stars. But it came up as 4.72 the first time. I couldn't believe my eyes so I ran it again and it came up as 4.78. I ran it a 3rd time and got 4.81. The ding is for Shipping & Handling. I'm disgusted.
What is going on????
Last time I ran a report, after I received another GLOWING feedback, I called eBay because I knew my regular customer would NEVER leave me less than 5 stars all the way around and it showed a ding on shipping and handling -- the same carp as today's, but that time I ran it 4 or 5 times until I got the message I had run too many and would have to wait to run it again another day, which is why I called eBay and the Rep told me to click my User ID, click Feedback and put my cursor next to the ratings. I did and they all were 5.0.
I do not want to call eBay about this if I don't have to. If someone like alan or trinton can look (on my selling ID) I would appreciate it but I don't want to alert them with the @ if they can't help.
If I find out this buyer dinged my shipping and handling I will put her on by Best Buddy List.
I do not want anyone to ding my stars for anything. I work too hard to have someone treat me unfairly.
I know, I know, this is petty especially since negs don't matter any more (never had one thank goodness!!!) and I might read that DSRs don't matter either but if she dinged my stars this time, who knows what she might do next time!!!
Thanks for any help.

Well, the stars may not count for/against your account as far as eBay cares, but buyer's look at stars

Someone was a good paying buyer and rated you a 4 instead of a 5 and you want to block them?
You haven't had any other transactions lately that the very minor ding could be from?
I don't know anyone who looks at the DSRs. Most of them are artificially so high they are meaningless.
Lake Ebay where all sellers are above average.

Why obsess over something that doesn't matter?
That's one of my questions. If they aren't important, if they don't matter, WHY are they there? For Buyers to DING us with??? Just a little unnecessary kick/ding for a good Seller?? Not on my name.

Good paying? She could have paid after she won but she didn't. I waited and waited ... well past the 2 days eBay says Buyers should pay ... I sent an Invoice. She paid the following day. I shipped that day instead of waiting the 3 days I could have taken to ship ..... I enclosed a gift with her purchase.
Then she (possibly) dings my stars?
Any other transactions where someone would have dinged my stars? No, as I mentioned I ran a report not too long ago after a wonderful repeat buyer left me glowing fb and that report showed a ding so I called eBay and the CS Rep said then it was a "glitch" and told me how to put my cursor next to my ratings so I did that and they were all 5.0.
I look at DSRs. <shrug>

I never ding the stars even if there was a problem, they may not count right now, but who knows what the future will bring? They weren't supposed to count ever, according to the announcement when they first came out...we all saw what happened after that.
Remember the Great Purge?
Thank you. I never ding stars, either. Not once. No, I don't remember the Great Purge. When was that and what happened?

I was very happy when ebay dropped DSRs and feedback as defects. I have been at 4.9 on shipping/handling about as long as they have been around. I thankfully never got a defect for a low DSR and I've never run a report--even back when they did count. Did this drop you down off 5 stars when you hover over them?
Having said that, I'll take the money from a paying customer (even if they are slow) any day over worrying about what star they picked for me.
I'm not sure what you mean about them not working. One ding won't necessarily drop your average down.

DSRs were rolled out as a form of punishment in 09 - 010 they are no longer used and ebays just left them there as filler rather than removing them....

Thanks but to ME - what a Buyer rates ME as tells me about THEM. I don't want someone I have been good to, to take advantage and ding my "reputation". Especially for jewelry that eBay suggested I lower so I did, and then gave a gift with it after it sold for the lower price.
When I hover over my ratings it still shows 5.0. But I ran another report just now and got 4.81.

Yep, I agree. Punishment!!! So good old eBay is still giving the buyer permission to kick us a little especially for something like shipping/handling when we (at least I) have lived up to OUR part of theeBay/Buyer agreement.
Incredible.
And then eBay tells us we cannot contact our buyer to question their ratings??!!! Well, I guess they would rather me just put her on my Best Buddy List then? And if/when she tries to bid and can't ... then she may possibly ask me why. And what shall I do then? LIE? No way. I will tell her the truth - that eBay's report showed me she was not happy with my shipping/handling. And I ONLY want HAPPY BUYERS!!!!

I know a lot of buyers who don't even glance at stars. It's the FB comments that are looked at.

Just my opinion, but when the "stars" counted, less than perfec sort of counted against your seller rating. As an above poster stated, they were orginally not supposed to count for anything. When the "switch" was made, they counted in a retro active fashion for a year and were obviously punative in nature.
I do not recall if this was a "great news for sellers" or "great news for buyers" program.
Right now the main "ding" seems to be 'case closed without seller resolution'. Typically a seller has to succumb to the usual, and pay off they lying buyer, accept a return, pay for the postage, and be just joyous that the Pal took your money for that $1000 bracelet when your return package has just a rubber band.
Giving a buyer a refund via the Pal for an ebay sale, earns you one of these.
