What do sellers of coins need to do?

I sell mainly coins. For the last week when I sign in to my account an Ebay banner message concerning managed payments appears.

It states, "Action Required" - You are required to Register by July 15th to avoid interruption to you business.

I did not get this message in June, July, or August. It has been my understanding that coins are not allowed to

sold under managed payments. I am hesitant to do anything about this,  as it seems totally odd that a

message is asking me to do something for a time period that ended almost  2 months ago.

Any insight as to what is happening would be appreciated.  Maybe someone could link in one of the

Ebay mods to this.

A few more details - Since I started seeing this sign- in banner, my sales have slowed but not stopped.

For my store I have about 450 Listings. All the listings are for coins except about 30 or so.

Re: What do sellers of coins need to do?

It is my understanding that sellers whose listings are a majority of coins can continue to take Paypal until coins, bullion, etc. are compatible with managed payments.

https://www.coinworld.com/news/precious-metals/officials-confirm-that-ebay-is-not-ending-sales-of-co...

This article is dated 5 June 2020.

"Steve Halupka, eBay’s manager for emerging verticals, which includes bullion, coins, sports memorabilia and stamps, released the following statement after Coin World inquired about collector confusion and misinformation found in online discussions on collector forums. The concern and rumors derived from ongoing changes to managed payment systems at eBay.

The official statement said, “eBay will continue to allow sales of coins, paper money and bullion now and in the future.”

Further, “eBay sellers that frequently list in coins, paper money and bullion will not be required to register for managed payments until these categories are compatible. Until then, there is no action required and sellers can continue to sell on eBay as they do today.”

Whether that holds true now, I don't know.

Thanks for your response. I was also aware of the statement you referred to. I wish Ebay

would make an official announcement of what is going to take place and when specifically it will

happen.

Re: What do sellers of coins need to do?

As with holidays and such, ebay seems to be 'calendar challenged'.  I think part of the problem with coins and bullion, in particular, is that in many countries it is illegal to receive gold - be it bullion or a chain on a cross - from out-of-country.  And, it may be that Adyen has policies about handling such transactions.

Honestly it would be nice if eBay just did their job and quit rolling out unfinished and untested projects.

It might be malware installed on your computer by a hacker trying to get your personal information.

Buy a malware/virus software program to scan your computer and make sure to also get a firewall installed to prevent future hackings.

@divwido

You're welcome.  If one were to look at the list of things that MP can not be used for, and seek a comparison, one might find that there are countries here and there, where certain items on that list are not allowed or seriously controlled.  Perhaps even one of the reasons that the IS change frequently and many seemingly unrelated things end up under categories like Home/Garden.

Just a thought . . .

If you use an adblocker extension/app such as Adblock Plus, you might be able to block that banner using the "block element" feature. Worth a try, anyway.

I block a lot of elements--especially the ones that pop up along the sides of a webpage. I just find them annoying.

Re: What do sellers of coins need to do?

July 15th is way past have you recently tried to list anything? It is quite possible your ability to list has been blocked or will be blocked. You should have eBay call you and go over this late notice. In the mean time so you can list and sell You really need to go ahead and get a separate checking account  for eBay and start the registration process. The registration takes a few mins to fill out but the bank account verification and activation into MP can take a few weeks so you really should star the process now. Even if down the line your main selling item could get removed from eBay you can still get sales and make money while you find another venue to sell you items.

I did not know that. Maybe that's why i a haven't been asked to switch yet.  I sell some foreign currency.

Thanks for your insight. I have been able to list items with no problems.

Yesterday was one of my best days for sales in the past few weeks.
