Just curious what Ebayer's are using to take their photos for listings. It is best to take photos in a 1:1 aspect ratio, which is a square and preferred by Ebay. While an iphone takes decent photos, I dislike it's ergonomics, which I consider inferior to using a camera. Most 35mm cameras will not take photos in a square format, which then requires editing of the photos, which is a waste of time. Am looking to buy either the Olympus OM DE M10 Mark II or the Lumix FZ1000. Any other thoughts and suggestions. Photo editing time is a waste of time and money.

I see this question has been posed numerous times before, with virtually no suggestions. Let's break that trend!

I use a Lumix DMC-FZ200 - of course aspect ratio can be set to 1:1 in most modes, but in fact eBay does NOT require square photos - I list on three sites which do but none of them is eBay.

Thanks for your camera suggestion. I know Ebay doesn't require square photos, but it is preferred and may gain you ranking points.

Been using an OM-D E-M5 Mark II paired with Konica manual lenses.
You may find the 40 megapixel high-resolution mode (on average 16-17 MP jpgs) comes in handy at times. Set the white balance and very little editing is required for eBay pics.

I use my phone LG Velvet or my scanner.

Thanks for the suggestion. Adds some support for my consideration of the Olympus OM DE M10 Mach II (They need a shorter name for Gods sake)

I spent a week and a couple hundred hundred pictures refusing to crop them. Such a stupid waste of time for no reason. I like my Nikon Coolpix B500, but then I know nothing about photos besides point and click.

I use a Kodak LS753 which came with a software disc that lets me move the photos to my PC and then manipulate the photo before I post it. Trim the excess, adjust color and brightness, rotate it from portrait to landscape, and many other adjustments.

STRONGLY disagree. Some of the photos I have seen simply fail abysmally. Remember that in most cases the photo is the FIRST thing the buyer sees. Lousy photo = skip to the next one.

For my photos on ebay I use a Panasonic DMC-FZ0 12x Lumix w/ optical zoom. Great macro feature for close shots.

Not necessarily; if you look at gallery photos (such as my own listings), you will see that Portrait images will give a bigger depth to your own listing in search results than Landscape orientation. I imagine that square images will fill the space to the same depth.
I like shooting in a rectangular format as it lets me choose either Portrait or Landscape in order to fill the frame as much as possible. My camera is an old Canon Powershot A540, tripod-mounted and using a 2-second delay to enable sharp focus with no hand-holding.
The camera's White Balance is set for Tungsten in order to match my incandescent lighting, which eliminates the orange-y tungsten coloring and renders the light as "white" the way we see it. A nice side-benefit of the tripod and the White Balance setting that is when I'm photographing the vintage bicycle lights that I often sell, the buyer can toggle back and forth between lighted and unlighted examples of the very same shot.

Just a comment about picture quality........I agree it's great to have absolutely perfect pictures.......however, in researching, I see alot of sales of items with less than stellar pictures....some are sideways, on terrible backgrounds, bad color (or no color)....... These are not rare, one of a kind items.......there are other choices......so I don't spend alot of time on achieving perfection.
